Rusted Labratory Key Question

I'm not sure if this should be in ??? hunt or this section, mod feel free to change section if needed.

Ok, so I'm on my second playthrough of the game, and i have have the rusted laboratory key from my archer playthrough. Does this mean I only need to get the meteor shards to complete the quest this time? or do I need to do the entire quest again? btw i came back a couple weeks ago from taking a break, so if it changed in corkus let me know.

if you have the key, you only need to drop the meteor shards into the hopper to open the door.
