    Having an item with a negative status makes my character's stats negative if the character's stats are
    0?

    most stats can go below 0, yes
    some (like health) cannot, while some (like skill points) give no negative effect when below 0.

    negative health, healthregen and lifesteal will only take you down to 1 hp
