Build Castaway's Island

Hey guys I am back from the oblivion! Hurrah! After my pilgramage to the land of the east I have thus became a learned scholar! Just kidding! I am still the same approachable Qulaey from before, so uh yeah guys. For the ppl that dont know I went on an Chinese exchange trip for two months and I have learned tons, not only on the basis of my education but also I have bettered the understanding of my world. While I was there I got to surely experience the Chinese mine craft experience! I met up with some Chinese builders and we had some fun playing and building together over the weekends and in my spare time. I have really learned a crap ton from these guys. because it fills my ego and makes me feel accomplished when what I am really done is place virtual blocks inside a virtual world that holds no real significant meaning to anything in real life.

this build was made a while ago as a practice and a proof of concept for some of the things that I've learned :D

 

I like that you use white, blue and cyan glass as the ocean.

 

I love cheese! my favorite is mozzarella.

You learned how to spam gunpowder b over d1?

 

Is that a negative comment? If so I am all ears for suggestions. Also, vowel sniper was not used at all during the construction of this build. The fact that you cant even name the simple plugins used shows how oblivious you are. Also, I urge you to focus on the building instead of the terrain as it was made hastily contrasted to the building itself. Maybe if I framed the photo better it wouldn't have lead to this comment, I guess I still have some things to work on myself. Looking forward to your feedback :)

 

It looks great! The terrain does look a bit strange though, unsmoothed in some areas and the texturing seems a bit off. But the structure and the water look amazing!

 

Yeah got that from the other guy as well I think. How do you think the terrain should look? any reference pictures? Definitively want to remake that in the future. :D

Yes, it is a negative comment! Terrain and surroundings is just, even more important than the actual build. If you had the coolest mansion with default trees around it would be hot garbage. The fact that you don't know this shows how oblivious you are. The house is really good though, just have better texture and smooth it out like the other guy said. I don't think you need reference photos to do that.

Where’s the slabspam?

 

Looks pretty nice, although the island itself looks very constructed since you can easily see the ellipsoids.

 

I think it could have a smoother shape on the rocks, perhaps try smoothing by hand. A lot of them seem unsmoothed, with perfect rectangular shapes appearing often and random blocks sticking out/missing. Also, for the big stone pillars at the bottom, maybe add some other blocks alongside the moss stone to give it some more contrast and less noise? The moss stone looks pretty noisy and the transition from normal stone to moss stone is a single block in some areas.
Basically, the overall shape is great and just needs some more smoothing and perhaps slightly more gradual transitions and more contrast in some of the texturing.

 

I tried something new this time, making it seem like a pile of rubble stacked togather by the waves. Guess that didn't go too well :P. Cheers to every one for their suggestions. I will attempt to implement it in my next creation :D
