After you respawn you can be unlucky to respawn in a city further from where you have been when you died.
I was doing a Dwarfs vs dogguns quest in molten heights and after i dided i respawned in Ternaves. Like from Gavel province having the chance to respawn in Rodoroc or in Maex i respawn in Wynn province in Ternaves.
A friend had the same experience died in Skiens Island and respawned in Olux

The spawnpoints are supposed to be this random?

the respawn system is really bad and its a known thing but it probably wont ever change, im pretty sure it works by spawning you in the closest city, and since that part of the quest is out of the map, ternaves is the closest. it should work by putting you in the last city you were in but eh

I’m sure that they have plans to fix this issue we just need to wait for housing them to be fixed.
