Fun fact that turtle is trying to find a mate. You can tell by the position of the hands.

It's also used to determine who is the alpha of the colony. For example Gordon (the alpha of my North American freshwater colony) often picks fights with the other turtles (which results in me taking him outside to calm down) it all starts with that same position.
