Serious Self-harm And My Experience With It

    First of,
    What is self-harm?
    Its harming yourself.
    Forms of self harm are: Cutting, burning, starving etc. (most common)

    My experience:

    I self-harmed for as long as I can remember, even as a small kid, I tore my hair out (it was really painful), I was scratching myself with paperclips and most recently cutting with really sharp objects... (not going to specify, so you will not try to do it...)

    I am trying to stop (absolutely, not going back to it), my biggest record without self-harm was something between 2 and 3 months.

    Why did I harmed myself:

    When I hated myself, overthought too much and felt like crap. It doesnt help (like a tiny little bit but it makes more harm than good...).

    When I cut myself, I sometimes get fucked up feelings and I just feel the urge to cut,I am trying to write when I have urges but it helps just a little...

    Yeah... I dont cut with razors btw... I am scared out of them.
    EDIT: I actually did a month (I think) after writing this thread... The scars don't want to go away... It's super sharp and it doesn't even hurt but it fucks up your body permanently and you could die....

    Why I am not thinking about suicide....:

    I have too many things that I live for, forums, kittens, my best friend, my crush, my family (mostly)...

    What to do when You feel like harming yourself:

    Go eat, draw, splatter paint, write, go on Youtube, watch your fav vids, pet your pet... Or tell me, I will try my best to help.

    What helps me to not self-harm:

    Pets, books, Youtube (mostly videos by Onision about cutting and self-harm), music, weekends (♥)... Its a lot of stuff...

    SELF-HARM ISNT COOL OR AWESOME, ITS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND YOU SHOULDNT TRY IT, BECAUSE YOU CAN GET ADDICTED TO IT AND YOU SHOULDNT HARM YOURSELF AT ALL.

    Btw, on reddit.com/r/selfharm is a good bunch of people who can also help...

    If anyone has some questions on me or self-harm, please write them bellow :).

    (sorry for not making this thread fancy, I am on my phone...)

    EDIT: After writing this thread my SH got much worse but I'm back on the right track again ;D (Woohoo, month without cutting...)

    If you SH you can get back to being okay ;) (seriously trust me).

    I had a friend who had this issue, it was really tough for him.
    Instead of crying when he faced something, which was the normal thing to do, if you were REALLY Stuck, he got into this kind of stuff. Eventually he managed to, as he called it, "escape".

    This is a real thing which needs to be taken seriously.

    Betka, if you need any help with this, ask your parents to go to someone with you. What helped for my friend was talking. He had a lot of cropped up fear, anger and energy, which he used to release by cutting himself.

    There are people out there who can help, if you need it. If you notice it's not going too well, think about what's best for you.
    I've been in a position like this too, where I kind of had to go see someone, to talk, but didn't want to, because it felt like.. You were wrong, or a failed person, which is of course not the case.

    But I strongly recommend that you go talk to someone, if it doesn't go the way you want it to go.

    Divorce of my parents few years ago made it much worse but I was already at a psychologist about that kind of thing... I stopped but then a lot of stress and stuff got me into it again... I have kittens right now and they cut me a lot so I dont even feel that big need to cut.
    That thing I wrote on paper I actually wrote in school, during a lesson. I was sitting in the back and the teacher ignored me and urges were really big... Few scratches... A drop of blood...

    When I am at home, I sing my heart out on some of my fav music or make jewelry because I dont think when I am making it and I am actually productive..

    Thank you for writing about this, It's a serious topic most of us have had an issue with and it is something we need to address more. Thanks for the words of advice, I hope this thread helps many.

    I'm not saying most of us have done it to ourselves, but we have had siblings, family, or friends who may have dealt with it. The more we can deal with it the better.

    Hmm, I see.

    A good way to prevent self harm is by eliminating ways you can do it.
    Get rid of sharp objects and things you could use to self harm, and only leave the least effective methods to reduce the effect.

    And ofcourse try to stop.

    But if you go to school, you probably have a pencil sharpener with you right? The blade from pencil sharpener is a really common blade that people use to self-harm with...
    And if you are not a cutter but you self-harm, getting rid of sharp objects doesn't really help you at all...

    But your method could help some cutters. ;D

    A good method I found (on the internet of course) is "Everything But Rule".
    When you want to self-harm, you do EVERYTHING you do when you self-harm, but you don't cut. You just take out your stuff, do your rituals and maybe even wash the imaginary wound afterwards. (this method works really well ;) )

    I fucking cut myself ALL THE TIME, but I'm not sure why. I did it once for a prank and then realized I enjoyed it and now I'm fucking addicted... I'm not depressed, suicidal or anything, I just love to cut myself... :l

    I hope you don't cut too deep... If you aren't careful, you could cut through some nerves and fuck up your body...

    If you use reddit (like I do :D) you could find some stuff in /r/selfharm /r/stopselfharm and more.
    If you want to stop, you can.
    With strong enough will, you can stop any addiction ;).

    I'm fine, if I felt it was interfering w/ my life I could definitely stop within a few months.
