Serious [meta] The State Of Shitposting

As you may know, in Grian's thread about the forum wipe, he stated that this was going to be a good thing since the bad posts will be gone and the forums will be more moderated for those kinds of posts. It's obvious that the kind of posts he's talking about are shitposts, the bane of any well-run community.

What is a shitpost exactly? Well, it's a post that is very lacking in content. General shitposts usually contain a few images or a funny sentence that is meant to try to rack up likes. The title is usually used as clickbait to try to get as many views/likes as possible pretty much for free, since shitposts take almost no effort to make in most cases.

The thing is, the definition of "shitpost" isn't really an exact definition. Urban Dictionary describes it as an "utterly worthless and insane posts on an internet messageboard." However, that definition does not include quality of the post itself, so technically there could be high-quality posts that have no meaning or worth to them.

So do high-quality shitposts exist? Yes. On the Mineplex Forums, I saw a thread on how to make a "potato farm" (note - potatoes are basically the equivalent of likes on their forums). However, I can't seem to find it (don't search How to make a potato farm since a really bad shitpost comes up), but it sure as heck was a shitpost due to its uselessness. It wasn't one that people would hate though, it was a very detailed one that probably took a bit of effort to make for enjoyment.

However, the bad kind of shitpost was abundant on these forums before the wipe. If you remember correctly, there was this post in Nemract's Bar about how to get LE or something like that. Its contents were just a picture of a facepalm and "how am i supposed to know?????????????????"
Those kinds of posts are just likebait. However, I saw that it had gained over 10 or 15 likes for a post that only required a Google Search and a keyboard.

So how bad can shitposting get? Well, if you do take the effort to make a funny joke that people can laugh at but really has no use to be on the forums, then go ahead. Too many good shitposts can still screw up a section, so I don't really advise trying to make one. One or two every two weeks is fine, but if Nemract's Bar gets flooded with them again like pre-9/7, then I don't think this section is even worth looking at anymore.

What should you do for absolutely useless, horrible, and no-effort shitposts that you see? For starters, DON'T LIKE THEM. AT ALL. The creator shouldn't be rewarded for typing a few sentences into a message box, especially when their intention is to farm likes (which is frowned upon by the moderators). If it doesn't even belong in the forums at all or is just consists of such bad quality that you feel like you need to 1v1 this guy in Club Penguin, snowscopes only, and rek them, just straight out report them. Remember, Grian said that the moderation team will be trying to clear the forums from clutter.

What about medium or high-quality shitposts? Unless it's something that's completely unique and makes you laugh, add a like to it. If not, just leave it be - it will sink to the bottom of the section eventually.

Remember, a shitpost is only a useless thread that usually takes no effort to make. Joke threads are mostly shitposts, but they're usually high quality in comparison to other threads. I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts on this kind of scenario that happens all over the internet.

Hmm, I don't know what to explain on this topic, of course, I guess you could call me a "professional shit-poster" due to the posts I.... post I guess, now that that I have all the like/message ratio trophies (thanks 9/7!), I can now post at any rate without having to worry about my like/message ratio screwing up.

I get the smallest feeling that I was one of the reasons this thread was made, if it is, then I don't really care, in the end, I'm here to entertain on these here forums, and play wynncraft obviously...

I know you're a VIP, but here's the thing, Nemracts bar doesn't even compare to the VIP section if were talking 'bout shitposts here.

 

If you can't "shitpost" then what qualifies as a good post? This is a forum page for a minecraft server MMORPG, man. whooooo care

For me a shitpost is also when someone makes a post saying "What is your favourite song?"/book/movie. Come on people, we have had those kind of threads hundreds of times before. Be original please

I don't try to shitpost, really, I just normally say what's on my mind, from something completely stupid to a witty remark to something actually helpful.

I think the fact that we like the shitposts are due to us having terrible senses of humor.

 

The people of the forums asked of the mighty Grian "Oh mighty Grian, remove our ShitPosts and cleanse the forums" and the mighty Grian made the VIP Section/Plaza. I actually feel like the VIP Plectoza is made for useless threads, or threads about random funny stuff.
