Death reminds me of the Beasts, but is clearly unrelated. Could they still possibly be the same type of entity, embodiments of realms?

I think Death is kind of detached from all that realm nonsense, and just passes spirits on through the doors of death. Wether they are a realm beast or not is kind of foggy.

At first I immediately just went "No, of course not!" but now that you put it in my head... what kind of entity IS Death? Light and Dark are the absolute primordial forces of the world and the beasts are the manifestation of those forces. Anathema is the manifestation of War, which is a result of the clash of Light and Dark. Given that the Elves of Aldorei obtained immortality as a result of destroying the balance and therefore effectively eliminating a connection to Death's Realm, it makes me think Death is a secondary force similar to Anathema. It may be the disposition and age of Death that makes him feel so non-threatening, as well as his alignment to the realms of influence. In essence... he may be the exact antithesis of Anathema, her opposing force.

I remember a post on r/wynncraft where it was four horsemen o realm beasts and someone said something about how Anathema, Orphion, Saphanis were realm beasts, but death was not

Perhaps Death himself will be updated lorewise as some point, like much of Gavel and the Canyon specifically.

I think the safest bet is that death is basically a realm beast but lacks the story depth to properly be fleshed out as one and is thus in some way "lesser" (maybe because he doesn't do much outside of his realm). Even though he has a lot of parallels to the other beasts he's not important enough to be elevated to their level. Maybe there are other beasts for things on his level that we don't see, and death just happens to be one of the few "low level" beasts we do see. In general, same "form of life", like how humans and fish are both animals.

Isn't Death, as it is shown in the game, non-canon?
