Question, are you average gacha game fan by any chance?

 

Idk about other gacha games but I gotta go on the defense and say Honkai Star Rail unironically has a really stellar (heh) story and it makes me sad sometimes

 

Oh no I understand some gacha game have banger story, but average gacha game fans often charactertize their character as male, has power fantasy, and obessess with making one or all female character the love interest(and may or may not remove any hint or canonical LGBTQ relationship in their interpreptation)

 

you did NOT maximize the crappy relationship between the player and sui. now as i am sure you did not know/care to find out/skimmed the wiki for, Gikyo has a Mora form in their bossfight. they mock Mora while trying to bash your brain in and that SHOULD have lasting effects on Sui. The Chaotic Good Player (also known as your Gary Stu oc) could have 100% capitalized on her newfound trauma seeing her brother's life flee from his eyes while a mocking mimicry of him fights Your Chaotic Neutral Player. he could prod about Mora (that he never took the time to befriend) misconstruing his personality and saying that both Sui and Gikyo would have been better off with them just impersonating Mora full time, which causes Sui to to finally attempt to Snowgrave El Chaotic Evil Player. and then Rurie falls out of a tree in again. oh but you wouldn't know that he does that in-game would you?

 

Honestly just go back to gacha games ToT you might be allergic to good writing

sooo… what about the men that we interact with on a personal level while helping them..? you didnt mention any of them. axelus, maxie, tasim and aledar… i could go on. especially with tasim you get very personal at points. why not include them on your potential romance meter? why these three women? and why are we acting like the player character is definitively a man?

 

If only there was a platonic plot-relevant friendship between two men who aren't brothers...

The RP in MMORPG stands for roleplaying guys. I've seen hundreds of different takes from different people on the Wynn player character, their backstory, their personality, etc. The variety is amazing! The game does the bare minimum for building the player character's framework on purpose - it allows you to fill in the blanks.

I actively encourage people to fill in those blanks, because otherwise you do end up with a player character who's primary motivation appears as "chaos". Which is valid in its own way, but don't confuse this as being the ""intended"" personality of the player character. The player character is what you make of it!

Don't take this as me having the same opinion as OP, but this is one thing I heavily disagree with. Making a headcanon which everyone including you is consciously aware is 100% unequivocally not real is not the same as having actual in-game romances with characters.
Anyone can make a fanfiction for a video game. The reason 99% of players don't is because people do not want to pretend to be able to match up their characters with NPCs, they want to actually match up their characters with NPCs.

Romances in video games exist because they're immersive to the player, and also because they qualify as the most innocent form of fan service... assuming of course we're talking about actually well-written video games and not some NSFW anime gacha game with romance for Tittania Boobinski, herald of Assjigglestan. Which Wynncraft is most certainly not.

But anyways, I am of course not at all demanding that romances get added, I just want to make a couple of points:

1. Outright insisting they will never get added simply because people can write their own headcanons and fanfictions is silly.
   
   
2. Wynncraft is trying to make more impactful choices for the player and this would be a great way to implement that.
   
   
3. If even the most mild romances were added then everyone would call it the Sex Update and it would be really fucking funny.

I disagree. I feel like 'encouraging' building such connections with fictional characters is... well it's interesting, though not in a good way. I suppose it would all be RP and not to be taken so seriously, but idk, I don't like it. Either way, to make this I think it would take a lot of dev time that I feel could be better spent elsewhere, given how much retconning they would have to do to make it work. At any rate, that's my thoughts, it feels weird, but maybe this is a topic for antoher thread.

Ok, first. I think we're going to need to stop here. I have no idea what you mean by "The player has never spoken until Fruma"? because the only way I'm seeing this is that you think the player has never canonically had lines before the Fruma update.

Second. I would really appreciate it if you asked for clarification before assigning me a position. Someone else in this thread already did that, received an answer, and we found more common ground. Several of your replies instead address claims I didn't make.

Third. Why are we talking about this? I have a whole post about literally anything BUT romance and yet I've apparently got the GM arguing with me about some random aside I got into with some third person. If you're this desperate to talk about it, then my stance is simple: Take the romance out of the main arcs, and turn it all into little fun extras I can interact with once the day is saved. The Maxie/Rhay wedding? Do that. It's funny. Waste my time on a practical joke and have a laugh at my expense. I have posts on the topic you're free to read if you're not sure what I mean. Otherwise, I'd like to talk about the actual OP.

you have many personal and emotional moments with tasim throughout fruma and in recover the past. he is arguably more personal with the player than someone like ava, who you listed. you say he mostly does not show up but when he DOES show up, its PERSONAL. he would be on your list if he were a woman but because he's not, you view him differently. it really is in line with you insisting the player character be a male which you still have not addressed, unsurprisingly.

also flexing your content book and barely having 50% over the secret discoveries is hilarious i cannot lie. i know people who have played this game to max level over and over with nearly 100% on all content. embarrassing.

 

A slight hyperbole but yes, the player rarely speaks before Fruma. The few cases i can think of are for Lazzie with the woman and the dead cat, and Hollow Serenity where you choose whether or not to tell Mrs. Faltach. Both have their affect on the game, though arguably not nearly as much as Fruma.

For the former yes its a Role Playing Game(RPG), hedcannon and make an OC, get into character as much as you want if you want romance. The second, your post made it seem important. The latter is plain false, you do speak little pre fruma, and when you do, it has little to no relevance (not impact, relevance)
