As per the title, I stopped playing as frequently after about 2016-2017.
I at least never stopped looking at big news and updates as they dropped, and I’ve hopped on periodically to play parts of new updates (primarily after Shaman’s release,) so I thought things wouldn’t surprise me a ton, but coming back to the game again has been a major culture shock of truly how much has changed despite having tried to stay informed.

I see augments, tomes, flying mounts, world events, all kinds of stuff that didn’t exist back in my day lol, and it’s more than a tad overwhelming trying to figure out where to start or how to use the new things—or even if it’s “necessary” to use them, or what I may miss by not reading up beforehand. For instance, my understanding of raids is that they are all made in a way that you will be ineligible to participate after a certain level.

Meanwhile, the gathering/crafting mechanic seems utterly uninteresting to me (nothing against it, just not my flavor of fun,) but is it still something I should do? I’ve seen some of the daily objectives revolve around those features, so I’m concerned whether or not I would be locked out of certain dailies—or even potentially quests—if I neglect them.

If anyone could help give me a quick rundown or explanation of things, I would greatly appreciate it. I’ve looked at the wiki on some of them to a certain extent (Namely Mounts, as I was confused why my horse no longer worked) so I have a rudimentary understanding of some of it, but that’s about all.

I try to answer some stuff here.
Ok so gathering/crafting (proffing) isn't important. You shouldn't really do professions unless you're doing craftsman.
For raids, you can participate at any level... the old rule about a limit to combined party level was dropped in favor of independent scaling. All raids scale independently for every person based on their level so. The only level limit on raids is lower bound of the level of the associated quest that unlocks it.

Augments are these things usable when identifying items to improve rolls, keep certain rolls, or not increase reroll count. Tomes come from raids and give low stat improvements. They can be useful, but really just use whatever you have on hand.

Afaik, there's only one quest that requires mining, that being Shadow of the Beast in Olux. That's the only time you really should prof.

As for mounts... so you need to take mounts to an enclosure. For horses it's in Ternavea, for Wyverns it's in Bantisu Temple in CoTL. Adasaurs are from Fruma. There are 8 stats. For every stat there is a level which is self explanatory, and can be raised by riding into those things that spawn. There is a limit which is the highest the level can go. To increase the limit, feed it proff materials (which can be bought). The higher the level of the mat, the more the limit will be increased by, though quality doesn't matter. To see which mats increase which stats, see the wiki. The limit can be increase to that stats max. To raise the max, you must breed two horses, putting one horse in the others feed slot

Thank you for the extensive reply! I appreciate it a lot lol, that clears up a lot of the questions or concerns I had about various things. And hearing that raids now scale independently and can’t be missed anymore is amazing news lol

As for the part regarding mounts, do you know how that works if the horse was already max stats prior to the update?
My account is old enough that I had a white horse with maxed stamina. So will that be reset/lowered in some way and I will have to feed him to raise it back up? Or will it stay where he was at before?

I'd advise starting from scratch. I've had an easy time with a Lightbender Mage; they don't use healing potions and have incredible survivability, with passable damage that only becomes nonviable in later levels (and World Events, but those aren't really designed to be played solo). Mage and Warrior might be the easiest classes, but with how complicated the system is nowadays that's hard to say.

I'd advise picking one archetype, sticking with it, and not worrying about equipment. I use a heuristic of "replace all your gear that's 10 levels below your current combat level and only use legendaries, and Morph parts if you're doing Morph collection"; this worked pretty well when I was playing through 2.0, and I don't think quest content has changed much since then.

All the stats' levell will be at 0. I don't know what will happen to the limits (they may also be at the default again). What I do know is that the 'Max' values for all the stats will be really high... even potentially maxed out? I think the maximum for the stats is 140 assuming the horse itself has maxed maxes and limits so the maxes might be 140?

Your white horse will have very high, but not max stats. You will need to feed it and train it to get it to maximum potential again. However maxing out may not be necessary as they travel at like mach 12 with their stats converted during the update.

Yeah, I went with lightbender and recommended my fiancée to go paladin warrior so she can facetank things without having to worry about mechanics and it’s been going pretty smoothly so far. My damage is outclassing hers by a lot once I got Ophanim, but I think that’s a case warriors having a poor early game combined with me having a server Rank (and thus getting 4 extra skill points compared to her.) So I’m sure that disparity will even out later once she gets some of the smite skills in that skill tree.
Overall, lightbender has been really fun, thank you again for the recommendation/help!

My best advice is to treat Wynncraft like it is a completely new game. Because it is.
Wynncraft isn't the same game it was when Gavel released. Because when Gavel released, it wasn't it's own game to begin with.

The best way I'd describe it is this: old Wynncraft was meant to be not much more than "Minecraft but with very light MMO mechanics". Somewhere around Gavel they first began shifting away from that, and now over a decade later, Wynncraft is an actual unique MMO game with its own style and gameplay.

Aside from outright new additions, here's a list of everything I can think of that is completely different since Gavel's release:
    • Pretty much literally the entire world (except for most of the Ocean)
    • The combat
    • The progression
    • The spells
    • The mobs
    • The quests
    • The visuals
    • The story in general
    • The exploration
    • The mounts
    • The music (well, kinda. They haven't reworked all tracks yet)
    • The cosmetics
    • The items
    • The activities
    • Literally every single piece of UI
I'm probably missing stuff, but you get the idea.
