So, with the recent stuff going down with discord, do you guys think we could see a sort of mini/mass migration (if any o-o) of people to the forums? I'd like to hear what thoughts y'all have (if any lol).

Would the "cultures" be too different for people to sorta adjust to? Are people dissatisfied enough to bother with moving to a different platform? Has discord been supported much more in comparison to the forums, so that it doesn't even feel worthwhile to move? (Like does discord seem more accessible / have more to offer? It's definitely probably updated more lmao.)

Do you feel like the traffic on the forums has increased/decreased/remained pretty much the same in... let's say since the beginning of this year, last month-ish and maybe last week-or-two-ish for reference? (Or I guess, since the news got around about what the plans for discord were?... whenever that was...)

Personally, since I fear big discord servers, and since I've only recently been practicing being more social here (slightly less fear :') but still a lil spooky ), I'm not in the best position to be forming well-thought-out opinions; except for: "any sort of forum revival would be pretty cool :) but I mega doubt anything will come of this". BUT I do wanna see what some of you more in-the-know people might have to say, and I tried to give some things to ponder over if you do choose to do some thinking :o

I doubt they’ll migrate here. Forms in general are slowly dying so they’ll prob duke it out unless it gets really bad

    my thoughts are really that
Just like forums cannot work for quick conversations, discord cannot work for suggestions, reviews, and threads. It is like email vs text.

It is SO MUCH BETTER ORGANISED on a real forum than on a discord server

So this is discord's plan as a whole (I think, allegedly supposedly..?), it isn't specific to the wynn-cord.
Bear with me here, uhh I'm not good at words,,

I don't know if I'll explain this right but from what I heard: discord as a whole was/is? joining in on the "you must submit a valid ID or give us a scan of your face so we can tell if you're an adult or not, and then either block you from adult content or let you continue unrestricted" thing that a handful of other companies are doing, so of course (from what I saw) the general public doesn't see that as an entirely good / actually safe thing to do.

I think it was like- for the people who did try to verify their age, the sensitive data that was collected got leaked... Then people were pointing out how this probably wouldn't protect minors from being exposed to [adults with evil intentions towards minors], which was a selling point; "protection for teens" (I think?), because accounts who wouldn't verify their age were automatically set as a minor, but it would? block them from content that was deemed +18.?. Basically it made a lot of people untrusting of how their data is handled, and leaves people feeling like this is gonna do more harm than good.

Trying to read up on this again, I saw that they're postponing this initial idea, but they're just gonna use already-established user data to do a sort of behind-the-scenes age verification anyway..? So make of that what you will I guess lol.

Uh, I think that's it in summary? I'm probably missing something or,, I'll have to be corrected if i got anything wrong :') I probably did knowing my tiny brain lmao

I'd certainly like if the forums got a revival; they're certainly a lot more peasant than the discord and a lot better for longer form content. That said, I'm not terribly optimistic. The Discord is certainly more popular because it's Discord. The staff definitely has seen this and has moved to mostly using it, so there isn't a huge incentive to move to the forums unless you specifically prefer that. We don't even get news here anymore. I don't think that's going to change.

We've seen time and time again, that while people will happily raise a fuss over whatever scummy thing a company does, in the end they'll kinda just take it for the most part. Discord isn't even doing something particularly scummy; they're quite literally just following the law in a number of locations, but for everywhere. Maybe for scummy reasons, maybe for future-proofing, doesn't really matter. I personally don't like it, don't agree with it, and most certainly don't trust it, but there's not a lot I can do about it without sacrificing the easiest way to stay in touch with distant friends. I imagine a lot of people are in the same boat. There's a great discussion to be had about the dangers of allowing corporations to become a foundational pillar of anything so that you grow to depend on them, but that feels too off-topic. I'll just stick with saying that I doubt this is going to affect the number of people using Discord, and I really doubt that it'll cause people to use the forums, much as I may hope that it will.

To add to what others are saying:
forums are easier to access than Discord, so I think they'd be a better choice to up-keep in the long run. I did some very light research, and found that, yes, you can look at Discord servers without an account, but it will bug you about it. It also forces you to give a username, which may not seem that much, but, at least with the people I know, including me, a username, even a temporary one, can be a big decision, since it's the first thing people see, and could be the thing that makes someone say "y'know what? I don't need to know what's happening."
I also agree with what the aforementioned others are saying. Forums are better for longer, slower discussion, which is kinda what you want for something like this. I've got a crack-pot theory that people are subtly encouraged to be more reasonable on the forums, because each message means more, which makes discussion just that bit more pleasant. A couple times I've caught myself about to say something dumb, and thought it through more, because messages actually mean something on here.

Total Forums Revival, while a long shot because of how popular and well-advertized Discord is internationally, would be (I personally think) a great moment for the community and overall the best move going forward. This is especially great going into the release of Fruma because we'll likely see a massive jump in numbers, and having a well-established forum for new members to reference and feel comfortable integrating with would be a way to KEEP those numbers high!

tldr; Forums better overall for long-term consistent community engagement.

I think that posting a PSA about the Forums for new players would be awesome, it's so hidden right now, and it's a way friendlier snapshot of the community in most cases.

:D yea! Well of course theres always gonna be bits of not-so-cool stuff here and there, but absolutely does it feel like there's a more-genuine? sorta vibe when it comes to conversing here.

Me half-religiously double, double checking if I want to say something... and then writing a rough draft of what I vaguely want to say to see if it's even worthwhile... and then double... double checking that there is for SURE no errors and that the formatting is at least mostly understandable....... and then double checking again that I'm fine with being perceived... Uh, maybe it's a bit overkill but all that to say- yea :') there's worth to words! (Yes, even to the silly little things that might not seem as important.)

100%. People are still rude on the forums, but on the whole they're way better than on the discord, which is just vaguely unpleasant a lot of the time. The number of times I've checked the discord and seen just blatant bigotry in chat I don't even know at this point. The mods are usually good about dealing with it, but the downside of having so many posts at any given time is that mods can't be everywhere and checking everything always. The sad reality is that people will act worse when they can get away with it.

Also, even ignoring the lock of accessibility of discord, I have an account and still prefer the forums, because I'd rather have longer lasting conversations, where something worthwhile can be read or responded to hours or even days later.

I didn't intend for this to become a "using discord bad, using forums good" sort of vibe :') (if it started to feel that way uh- oops sorry o-o'). You're absolutely still allowed to enjoy going to the discord lol, I just wanted to gather some opinions on the current happenings. I think we might of got a bit carried away by the appreciation and hopes and dreams of it all :')). Maybe strayed a lil bit from the original question at hand mayhaps :')

the issue is that when i have a bug or issue, obv discord is much faster to get a response, but then i get sucked into the conversation and I need to pull myself away
