I'm sorry if people have already asked this question but I have noticed you can identify items at the Item Identifier NPC so everything is nice and everything.

But then I noticed I can identify the items already identified again?

Can someone would be kind enough to explain this concept and is it worth it to do it?

Also, I noticed rarity in items, I got a legendary chest plate but I have no idea if it's really that good or not.

Thank you so much for reading this and helping me! I heard I can like answers but I wish I could do more to reward all the people spending their time helping noobs like me with silly questions.

Hey yeah, so when you identify an item, the stats will be randomized in range of the item's base stats. Identifying an already identified item will re-roll the stats of said item.

For example, take a look at this item.

If you get an unique unidentified wand, of level ranging from 0-4, you might get this quartzite wand.

This wand will always have a fast attack speed of 3-5 neutral damage. But it might have a differing xp bonus roll. For this item specifically, it ranges from 1% to 5% xp bonus.

If you identify the wand for the first time, and get only 1% xp bonus, you can re-identify it (reroll) for another chance at maybe a higher roll. However identifying does get more expensive with more rerolls, so best analyze the value of the item against the reroll cost.

Regarding item rarities, the ascending order of rarity goes as follows, Normal, Unique, Rare, Legendary, Fabled, and Mythic, so to answer your question of
Generally speaking legendary chestplates are better than uniques or rares, however you should personally analyze if it synergizes well with how you're currently building your stats.

There are also Set items, which is the green rarity, where depending on how many pieces of the set you have equipped, they may provide varying set bonus stats.
