2.1 Music changes

A thing that has confused me to no end is the hype for the noteblock changes being implemented into the soundtrack. I get that the (as of a few years ago) new noteblock sounds provide for more range and complexity, but I hated the implementation of the new noteblock sounds into the music in Hypixel, which made the songs somewhat unpleasant to listen to, as I found them borderline shrill. If the snippet is anything to go by, something similar will probably happen in Wynncraft, which really worries me. I've always loved the soundtrack as it is, in some ways because of what it does in spite of the heavy limitations, but everything I've heard using the updated noteblock changes has sounded kind of terrible to me. So, I have to ask, is this just something that bothers me, or do other people have a problem with the new noteblock sounds, and strongly prefer the old soundfont?

 

The new instruments IMO are amazing, they make the game feel more like a pixelated game, plus the old soundfont is still staying, it's just getting some new instruments.

 

I do prefer the classic note block sound, but the new instruments are cool. I just feel like they should be their own unique sound instead of the default minecraft ones, like in Maple Chimes. The snippet we got on the website didn’t seem like the best example of its potential, though, the instruments didn’t really make it feel like a boss track to me. But that might just be me lol.

Overall, I prefer the old style, and I feel like it would be a lot of work to remake all the original songs into the new style. Considering that there are, yknow, hundreds of them lmao. The new style is cool but I think the instruments should be their own unique Wynncraft sound instead of the minecraft ones. I feel like the minecraft ones don’t work very well for Wynncraft’s style of music, and the use of the default sounds makes it sound similar to stuff like Hypixel, and less unique. But to be fair, we only got one little snippet, so we’ll have to see when we get to hear more during the beta.

 

I mean... the example they gave us wasn't the best instrument/intensity for the climax of the song imo. BUT it could be modified... I think it should be cool

 

You do realize these are custom noteblock sounds. This isnt the vanilla game ones, these are unique instruments that were carefully chosen for the soundtrack.

Ok, this does sound a lot better than other things I've heard using the soundfont change, and while the higher sounds continue to bug me, it's good to know they don't seem to be a problem for just about anyone else.

 

What other things have you heard using the soundfont change?

In general I think it’s gonna be really mixed
I have a feeling that while overall this is a good change some specific songs might suffer for it

I think having a toggle for old versions of the ost in /toggle would be cool but that might be hard to implement(especially with brand new songs made after the change)

 

I think Hypixel uses the same soundfont

 

Huh? How would Hypixel have the same soundfont? Deusphage just told you that the new notebook sounds are custom unique instruments, just like the rest of Wynncraft's notebook sounds.

i think it's just that the bell melody sound in the music snippet sounds extremely similar to, if not the same as, the default minecraft one and the one in NBS. that's probably why they think it sounds like hypixel because as far as i can tell with that snippet, it's the default mc sound
