What do the crafting material tier colours mean

    It's been a while since I've had anything to do with crafting, but know I'm curious. I know that obviously the higher tier the material is, the better. But what do the colours have to do with it? There is gold, blue and purple variants to the tiers and I have no clue what they're supposed to indicate

    it's literally just the rarity
    gray = normal/common/whatever
    yellow = unique
    purple = rare
    blue = legendary

    (fabled and mythic ingredients when)
