Thoughts on MC Live (SPOILERS)

Just wanted to make a place for people to talk about their impressions on MC Live. I'm excited about the new features they showed, and the multiplayer aspect of the trial chambers. Auto crafting will be OP too. As per usual it seemed a little awkward, and to me it seemed less exciting than most years. Of course the mob vote is the big topic and I hope they scrap it next year, just for everyone's sake cause at this point it would cause an even worse controversy next year and isn't really worth it in my opinion (except it's worth it to Mojang to generate discussion and hype for mc live).

Overall I thought it was fine, could of been better but they did showcase some cool stuff.

 

I'm pretty excited for those, especially the "playful agressive" breeze mob.

It doesn't look to OP too me. It's going to be a tile entity, so probably immovable (which would be super annoying. Strange hopper clock shenanigans incoming.) It also spits items out instead, and it's unknown whether hoppers will be able to pick items up before they get spit out.

Yea, just 'cause one of the mobs is cool doesn't mean more of them shouldn't be added.

And that statement pretty much sums up everything I think about all of this.

 

Too much pre recorded shit, it was boring, and pretty much defeats the purpose of being live. Not even any interaction with the viewers afaik

Lmao yea it was painfully obvious that it was prerecorded. I saw a graph somewhere that showed how less time has been used to preview the new update each time, 4 years ago it was like forty minutes but this time it was like fifteen. When it ended I said to my friend "is that it?"
At least what little they did show of the update looked kinda cool even if they stretched it out.

 

Well (btw this is NOT necroposting its been 31 days exactly so afaik its not) if it wasnt prerecording they would have seen the ENTIRE CHAT FOR 50 MINUTES spamming #STOPTHEMOBVOTE and they did NOT listen

 

late but i'm honestly glad the crab didn't win, not a fan of the armadillo by any means but holy fuck the crab was such a dogshit idea, i'm all for adding an item that gives the player extra reach but the crab was just not it

the idea of adding an item that allows for more block placement reach is cool and all, but obtaining it should be more than just "i found a mangrove biome, time to get a crab claw haha". it should be something you have to really work towards; minecraft needs more endgame goals.
the same philosophy applies to the armadillo, i like the idea of more dog content but like... why armadillos. it means their entire existence is basically to serve as a means to an end for a different mob to become stronger. they have absolutely zero purpose beyond being farmed for their scutes so that you can make dogs slightly more damage resistant. i'm okay with the idea of adding armadillos, and with the idea of adding dog armor, but combining the ideas is really stupid imo
overall it really feels to me like this mob vote was mojang taking some things players want and arbitrarily slapping them onto random animals after complaints that last year's mobs were "too useless". i unironically think the penguin was the best idea out of the three and even that was basically just dolphins but better. mojang won't stop the mob vote but i hope they at least make better fucking mobs in the future

i see this thread has also had some debate on whether or not the show was actually live. of course it was mostly prerecorded elements but afaik the update announcement bits are done live for.. some reason

i also like how voters got the cherry blossom cape. it's obviously just mojang trying to shut up the 12 yr olds who think there's any change they'll stop doing mob votes by adding a voting incentive, but i think its a cool way of having people feel involved in the event as well. seen some people say it "devalues" existing capes but tbh they still have their unique patterns so i don't really see this argument that much

there was absolutely no timeline in which they were responding to that lmfao, the controversy is part of what makes the mob votes such a success and the "stop the mob vote" campaign only fed it. i guarantee half the people who hopped on this pointless bandwagon voted on the mob vote anyway, and probably annoyed a few people into voting out of sheer spite too

I hadn't heard the argument for the extended reach yet, but after hearing you I agree. It should take more effort and be more of an endgame item.

 

I actually really love the cherry blossom cape, because my MC account was made after all new accounts had to be made on Microsoft, so I never got the migrator cape. Now I finally have a cape! (WOOOO!)
