2023 mob vote

Which one are you voting for?

 

It's rare that all the options are good (and its kind of obnoxious that 2/3 will never be added), but crab because building reach

Crab but mob votes are stupid

 

Everyone's been like "oh the mob vote is so even this year!!" And props to mojang but on the other hand I feel like it's just gonna divide people more, cause there's not really one mob people don't want to vote for (sure penguins isn't get as much but there's still a fan base for it).

I genuinely hope they add all three, I'm tired of the mob vote after so many years.

 

Maybe I'm being too cynical but recently I've started thinking the Mob Vote as a whole, as a concept, is just PR and nothing more. You're not voting which mob will get added as much as you're voting which two mobs get binned forever. Those other two mobs can't get added later, because it'd invalidate the whole vote and the main reason to watch MC Live (and you know the people who voted for the winning entry are gonna yell on Reddit about it). They can't really make a snapshot with all three in them, because then that can of worms is opened: they'd have to remove two fully fleshed out mobs, which is ridiculous, and as a bonus, modders can just take those assets and code and reimplement the mobs anyway.
So Mojang has to present three mobs, but leave them purposefully vague so the mobs seem more even. With more information about each mob, you could more easily determine the objectively better option, but that would be boring, predictable, it would invalidate the vote, and therefore be bad PR. How does the crab claw work, how does it drop, how far does it let you reach, does it work with weapons? How much protection does dog armour give, can you enchant it, does it have durability? How fast do penguins move your boat, do they work on land, do they take up the back of the boat? We don't know nearly enough, so naturally we vote for the one that probably has the most utility, and is at the forefront of the minds of the terminally online (how many memes do armadillos and penguins star in?)
I'm all for freedom of choice and transparency from developers, but the Mob Vote has neither. If you want to influence the election, the only thing you can do is vote, which reinforces the popularity of the Vote. There is no effective form of protest, and you can @jeb_ all you want, but the whole vote is just an advertisement for Minecraft and MC Live. The Mob Vote masquerades as democracy, but it's just selling a product. I'd even say it's selling democracy itself: come vote for one of three mobs, and maybe your favourite will be added to the game! Your vote matters! Even though it shouldn't.

 

iirc that's only for the first mob vote with the phantom. It's not that the mobs that lost the voting will never get added, it's just that they won't be added in the planned update.

 

Honestly yes.
I think that the devs should add whichever ones they want, since it is THEIR game after all.
