aside from wynntils, which mods should i use?

    honestly you don't really need mods other than wynntils and a bunch of performance boosters
    iirc Olinus10 and Looniitick have made videos on wynn mods


    there should be more out there if you search for them

    Not anymore. Most optimization mods now grossly outperform OptiFine, in particular the Sodium/Starlight/Indium/Iris quadrifecta. In addition, OptiFine's closed source nature makes it very hard to work with, and it modifies core classes rather aggressively (as well as being straight up incompatible with the mods I listed above), so it's not a viable option anymore.

    You do need to switch modloaders though as those are Fabric mods, and with 1.12.2 soon being sunset, it might be finally worth going with 1.19.x versions instead.

    Wynntils moved to 1.20.2, so if you are just setting up an instance for youself, might be worth using that version.

    This modpack has OptiFine parity on nearly all aspects, if not all of them. Sure, it's not just one mod anymore, but it still achieves parity as well as being easier to work with on the development side.

    My personal modpack has wynntils, sodium (for performance), krypton (again, for performance), logical zoom (basically optifine zoom), voices of wynn (makes the npcs speak), bobby for half decent render distance, and fabric api to make them all work together with 1.19.4 fabric mod loader.
