I think the primary reason for these changes is to stop people from cheesing the challenges so easily, class notwithstanding (e.g. in the Defend challenges, you only need to make the mobs target you and not the objective - nothing about taking them out). Archers are definitely getting short-changed here, but a skilled Mage player can still deal with the challenges even without the safespot cheeses they once had (source: beat WynnCon Death with Lament/Monster Mage, for context this was pre-2.0 in a community event server with very souped up bosses back in 2021).

In any case, the main complaint here is the imbalance of the mobs as it stands due to scaling (after 10-15 challenges where safespotting is not viable anymore you can expect to get oneshotted w/o any points in defence for archetypes that rely on agility for EHP).

Shaman still has uses in lootrunning, primarily due to the fact that in my opinion and testing Shaman is the only class in the entire game with "legal flyhack" for a mobility, and absurd ad clear (saying Shaman is bad is mostly players not being able to deal with the mobs properly).

Yeah I know I am only saying that assasin can't do that so you need tankier build and now other classes too.
Seriously? My only max lvl clas is assasin and I have a trickster build with 29000 ehp and I was surviving easily ( I know that other classes have less defense but I'm bad player )
What? Mage and warrior can fly easily with just clicking one button. Shaman must cast totem and mobility spell. Acrobat also ned to be patient and time everything correctly just to be slower than other classes.

edited. Satan made me aware that this entire post sucked

    heads up, acrobat exists

WFA is incomparable to what we have now. EHP was also nerfed in 2.0. we're definitely worse off now than before in regards to survivability in challenging content. The meta is now "don't get hit."

An archetype with abilities that rely on Agility does not serve as an excuse to not build defense.

Building for lootruns is simple: Skill Point spam for rainbow, include EHP (30k+ unbuffed, w/o tomes) with decent Raw HPR, use a weapon with a high Average DPS (for its class), and include mobility spam capability.
Warrior meets all of these capabilities and incredibly so. everything scales amazingly with boons and all the playstyles available are fun/interactive. It's great enough that Non-Mythic/Cheap builds can even perform amazingly!

The mob scaling is definitely overtuned but there's methods currently available to the player to assist them in combatting and extending the length of their lootrun.

The beacons you go for are important. Boons are ridiculously (and hilariously) strong, and rightfully so! As your run progresses, you will need to make sure to go out of your way and grab boons that support your run. If completing a challenge takes too long, you would be better off just ending your run and doing shorter runs.

Strategy is required. The Lootrun Camps are an amazing feature that actually challenges the player to think with their head-- or just watch a guide and kinda figure out what they need to do through experience.

the current lootrun tl;dr: play Warrior

Aftershock tstack is actually good now cause they gave shaman the warrior treatment (lots of multiplicative damage bonuses), although spell kinda falls behind because aura is rate limited

This is very much a clown post, but I'm gonna skip the ad-homs here and focus on the meat of your actual criticism:
This is a very dumb argument since boons are a band-aid over the holes in your build, not a replacement for strategy. You can go into lootruns with morph and do well if you get enough boons early on. The fundamental problem here is that mage and archer are classes that rely on a range advantage due to being glassier than the other classes, and while boons can help with this problem there's a certain level of "get swarmed by a billion monsters until you die" that even boons can't fully push you through. I'm not saying the cheese spots were necessarily a good thing, it's just that with them gone there should be some sort of alteration to make these classes competitive without having to pull some ridiculous optimized build out of your ass. Additionally, boons are about as luck based as they are strategy based unless you have like 7 beacon choices and can pick whatever beacon you want on any particular round. Without that, you could easily just hit a boon drought or get shafted on boon choices and your run is over.

I think a good idea would be having the timer quicken if the player is in a safe spot for too long. This could punish player who use the cheese spots instead blocking them off. To denote the spots color coded carpets could spawn when the challenge starts. There could be three or four zones red, orange, yellow, green. Red carpet closer to the center and green carpets closer to the safe spots and if the player is in the safe zone for more than 5 seconds the timer could decrease by 2x.

yea you're right. I believe all of this is only because of bad execution at solving a game design issue. the clown message you were replying to was poorly expressed. @AmbassadorDazz sorry about that.

    To address your message though:
Boons are not a replacement for strategy. Players grew too used to not requiring as many boons due to the existence of safespots. Boons should already be included in the strategy, since they are meant to be the player's option to further perform against the constant difficulty scaling. Making a build that scales effectively with boons is part of the strategy. Using Morph would just make things harder for you since there are just more, bigger holes to band-aid.

You make a great point about classes being competitive without the requirement of optimized builds, but I also question your standards for a good lootrun. There's this degree of unfairness that makes me question why they would use such a forced method instead of something more fair. Safespots are no bueno but they're definitely a whole lot more entertaining than not being able to be successful due to now requiring an actual lootrun build + more luck than previously. It sucks that they made this rushed fix; as players, we can only face forward for the time being. Assumedly this fix won't last forever

Playstyles for lootruns are still evolving. With the removal of safespots, Mage and Archer have to build to meet the challenge.

Flying Bolt is a functional lootrun playstyle for Archer. For those that want to play more grounded, Trapper is a working option that requires some investment. Damage boons and HPR Raw/% would be best case
build designed specifically for lootruns: Trapper Freedom + Ignis
    https://hppeng-wynn.github.io/build...tcC10000U1007iO101Z9I0z0z0+0+0+0+0-j-mErYfYN8

Mage is kind of screwed ngl! Players that use Arcanist, since it will be the cheapest to build effectively for, must heavily dip into EHP boons in order to make sure they can tank the damage they will definitely be taking.

that's a great point, and also telling of how lootruns are designed to flow. Once you get to the point where challenges begin to take longer to complete than they are worth or dying, that's when you should consider ending your run. Assuming you only kept a lootrun because of early-on luck with orange beacons, you would have somewhat proper control over when you double aqua into a dark grey.
This is all we have for now and it's how we manage to keep classes "competitive" as players.

How about entertaining this concept: Each class has differing optimized points in lootruns to where they would best be off ending a lootrun.

This new lootrun system is meant to be a challenging gamemode. There first mistake was setting everyone's standards way too high right from the beginning.
I don't think you can avoid a meta. There will guaranteed be a class that performs best. I can only hope this current change is to see how things flow when all classes are put on equal playing grounds. If it's just a slapped in solution for the time being, then they would be better off just removing the borders until a better solution is cooked up. What's the worst that could happen?

Not 1/1 to the build that solo'd Death, because I can't remember what I used back then to do so (then again, Mage sustain was nutty enough to invalidate most challenges, but not enough in the face of mobs that can oneshot you regardless of EHP). Not the best damage, not the best use of items, nor the best archetype to spec into - but it has high burst potential along with mana generation from Arcane Transfer and sustain from life/mana steal stats.

You can swap out Monster for Fatal and Dawnbreak for Sine (same talent tree) if you want some truly wacky numbers, in exchange for greatly reduced EHP and sustain compared to the Monster build.

okay but this does less damage & ehp than morph https://hppeng-wynn.github.io/build...000CO1000CO1000CO1006CO0z0z0+0+0+0+0-l7-mhd-1
plus you want to take thunderstorm for more damage and mana bank

The issue with your build is that you have less mana sustain (nothing about health sustain) and you need tomes to fit Monster into the build (this being Morph, it's to be expected). You can definitely spec into Thunderstorm, if the mana sustain isn't up your alley.

It also has skillpoint flexibility - the build I posted had additional skill points available but I dumped them to Intelligence.

you are infact correct about the mana sustain, however just by taking thunderstorm you'll be able to easily sustain with that. It's much more worth than purification and... cheaper heal? (why)
If you dump sp into dex it still doesnt deal as much damage and not nearly enough as much ehp

to all the people that complain about mage being dead : just play monster arcanist, I got a 60 pool reward on my first lootrun after the update with only that mid-build :

about the barrier block, just avoid them it's as simple as that (no they don't block any flying paths)
    ________________________________
also, use thunderstorm in your trees for obvious reliability & damage reasons (and cheapier heals are useless on arcanist, the spell costs 0)
    ________________________________
little detail about the tree : purification is more usefull than arcane restoration as it deletes weakness, slowness & blindness debuffs
    ________________________________
about mana sustain : meteor cost & ice snake cost are not really important because of the amount of mobs you face
but having <10 mana cost tps restores you mana while flying (because of manastorm) so it's more sustainable when flying, so you're wrong considering this is a lootrun build
