    I've been playing for a few weeks now after coming back from a couple years of break and this is the first time this has happened. Is this a glitch? An easter egg? Does it happen often? I am clueless so input would be much appreciated.

    TBH I think it's a glitch that turned into a (rare) feature, it happens on occasion no matter what horse you have..

    It's a 1/100 chance when you spawn a horse that it turns into a mule. It's an Easter egg.
