SPOILER The Secret Behinds Runes...

To start, I am not crazy and there is just so much lore in this game. Now yknow how there are runes in the game, they obviously have a deeper meaning. I do find it somewhat weird that they are used to make keys and start raids. So there is an obvious correlation between the two. But first I want to cover what exactly runes are? You may think they are just some currency but there is a deeper then that. One of the biggest things hinting towards it is in the quest: "A Hunters Calling". The Twain Brothers were able to seal away the literal Corrupter of Worlds with just 3 runes. This shows the runes have extraordinary abilities when used.

Spoiler: Inconsistency or possible new theory

(On a side note, how the hell did they get those runes??? In the lore, the Twain Brothers lived around 590 AP but the first connection between Wynn and Gavel were in 900 AP. Even if they had access to Corkus and Dern during that they wouldn't have nii runes. So uh.... what happened there?)

It is also strange how they need "guardians" which adds to the theory of them a powerful source of magic. Makes sense but what about forgery & raids, how do runes fit into those? The illogical theory is that the runes combined with the keys are strong enough to heal them and strong enough to get into the raid areas. But I highly doubt that they need a couple runes just to fix a key when 3 of them can hold in apparently one of the most powerful monsters. So my theory; Runes are a scam by Big Dern Corporations.

Think about it; All of the raids and dungeons which require them are because of the Dern/Corruptions. The forgery is just a corrupted version of the regular dungeons which we know the corruption and Dern have some sort of ally ship due to Bakal. There is the Orphion Raid which was basically the parasite, and the Nameless Anomaly is some void dern thing. You may be thinking: What about the worm raid and the statue raid? Well firstly the worm one uses Az runes which are like the little cousins of the Nii rune.

But the worm raid was because of the decay so it is connected. But then there is the Canyon Colossus which doesn't seem to fit the Dern or Corruption right? I mean it can't since we learn that it literally banishes the decay from the mountains. Or does it? I think somehow the corruption managed to get it. Why do I think it did/can? There are corrupted mobs in the canyon of the lost. The corrupted key guardians which confirm the corruption is there. Also notice the eyes are red just like the corruption... I dunno it could very much of been corrupted. It even says that we don't know why is started to break.

And want to know the best part? Even after we do the raids it changes nothing. I mean in the lore it says it just calms the statue down for a little bit. Which is perfect for their plan, a possibly world-threatening thing which has to be done several times requiring super magic sources... The worms would've destroyed the land, the parasite would destroy the light, the statue would destroy all of the canyon and molten heights and possibly sky islands and Greg would continue to and I quote from the wiki: "*responsible for the tears between the Plane of Physicality and the Void, known as Void Holes*". The fact they are all related to the dern/corruption makes me think there is no threat. Even if we didn't do the raids or forgery nothing would change as they are just collecting the runes.

But why would they need the runes? Well as we established it is incredibly powerful when used right. They are obviously planning to use them for some evil stuff. SO DO NOT DO FORGERY OR RAIDS YOU JUST FALLING INTO THEIR TRAP!!!

Runes are powerful artifacts that were used by the civilization in Gavel that existed before villagers. The reason why that civilization no longer exists is because they tried to combine a bunch of different types of runes, which then caused a cataclysmic event. That same event was what tore a hole in reality, creating the forgery.
