I know hating on Skyblock is the least original forums post, but the new update is something else. I still "play" Skyblock, but all I ever do is just collect from my minions and sell, quite literally nothing else. So, I saw that today, Hypixel added a new feature, the Garden. What does one do in their own, personal Garden?
    1. After spending money to buy something to make compost (the thing takes a few timed seconds to become compost, like something out of a mobile game), you buy a plot of land.
    2. To do anything with it, get ready to clear every last weed. (at least you don't have to flatten it?)
    3. Grow crops on the plot in the Garden which I'm pretty sure grow while you do the other... activities available in Skyblock.
    4. Craft crops into things like hay or bread, which can be sold to an ai customer every 15 minutes. (timers, our favorite)
    5. You get copper from selling, which can then be use to upgrade your Garden in some way.
    6. Rinse. And. Repeat.
I don't think I have to tell you this is both incredibly boring and mobile-game like, but what really gets me is the gameplay loop is just a more time-consuming version of Pay Day, right down to the doing other things while your crops grow.
I don't know how the Skyblock community has reacted to this feature, but like most other Skyblock features, it will probably be embraced wholeheartedly by most, and the community will criticize anyone who criticizes the feature.
Also for fun, you can buy skins for your central barn, some of which cost copper, and others of which cost gems, which of course cost real life money.

but still, having checked out the update, yeah its really... i think you put it quite well, it feels really mobile gamey. not to mention, after the first time making compost, you need a shitload of crops just to make another piece, like the amount where you either have to grind for ages or spend quite a bit of money on stuff. which makes it pretty inaccessible to new or even mid game players.

worst part is a few farms set up on a private island can do the garden's job just as well or even better, and generally takes less time to set up.

i spent 300 hours on skyblock, got progression locked after floor 5-6 dungeons because of time constraints (didn't really know how to progress), and i don't even collect minions anymore. i just watch the progression through yt...

anyways there are 4 types of skyblock updates: early game, mid game, late game, end game
this one is a mid game update i think with the new gear that it makes available, even if the time spent takes longer than other parts of the game. but things like farming fortune don't come easily for mid game players, which is definitely nice
i do sort of wish they took a different approach to the update, but at least some concept change is needed to bring that sector of the game up to speed with the new combat and mining stuff. (Now we need foraging. its been years come on.)

but you gotta remember (1) skyblock is defined by spending countless hours for a +1 strength bonus (2) they have to monetize the game somehow and (3) even if the garden doesn't fit with you its more content for people like ThirtyVirus and ZachPlaysAN
and also, you're on wynncraft forums. go sit in waterfall or junkyard for a few hours if you're bored of garden :P

    k i should stop procrastinating.

I mean yeah, but that's kind of one of the core problems with Skyblock
This is Nemract's Bar, nearly anything goes

The update gave me like 4 levels in less than a week so I’d say it was a personal success

alright so this is a post I can actually talk about well
i have ~1k hours on my profile i cba to log on rn and check and i have about ~7.5k hours total spread across multiple accounts

imo garden is an update for EVERY stage of the game

The first eight plots, unless your playing ironman, don't take much money to get (about 10m or so when I bought mine, and compost prices have decreased considerably since then), and before someone says that ironmans are screwed over, which I think I read somewhere in this thread, keep in mind that the game is made not for ironmans but for regular players. It is dumb, I agree, but that has to be considered. Skyblock was meant to be a multiplayer game and nothing else, and then people like RageTrain came along and made unofficial gamemodes. The admins saw this and made one unofficial gamemode a reality. That gamemode would become what we know today as ironman. Again, skyblock is meant to be an MMORPG with a heavy emphasis on the multiplayer part. It's why bazaar and the auction house are unlocked extremely early. They're necessary to play the game in a sense. Now, let's go back to the garden. The admins ARE making changes to the composter so that you can get compost at a faster rate, but it isn't to help ironmans. It's because it requires way too much to unlock all the plots using bazaar, and grinding the compost manually just isn't an option. Before I get an argument on this, think about it like this. Let's say you live in New Jersey. The soil there is PERFECT for growing grapes that can then be used to make wine. You can buy everything needed to grow grapes and make wine, so why don't you? Besides the fact that its illegal if there is more than one adult in the house (you can make up to 100 gallons of homemade wine per calendar year if this is not the case), its tedious and its better to get it from somewhere else. Same thing applies here. It may not be illegal to make your own compost, but its tedious. Getting it from somewhere else is the better option. In our real-life scenario, ironman players would be the people who did make their own wine at home.
