Okay so Realm of Light V. We see Lari and Bakal fight, and Lari says "Stay back! I'm keeping up but he'll destroy you if you get close!!"

Now remember Realm of Light IV, where Lari tries to kill you? You know she's trying her hardest, because she's trying to kill you. But she can't, and you're more than halfway to beating her before the guardian of the forest steps in.

Also, we know that Bob beats Bakal through secret discoveries, and we beat Bob's reincarnation (which I assume is close to being as strong as Bob) at level 75.

Does this mean that the player is stronger than Bakal? Because if Player>Lari=Bakal, then Player>Bakal.

Why does Lari say that Bakal would destroy us then :(((

If I had to guess, I'd say that Lari wasn't trying her hardest when fighting the player, but this is actually a fairly good point.

AHC is kind of hard plot twist where everything is buffed
Like Ragni soldiers and Olux swamp mob being endgame level

Yeah, but Bak'al states that the player is a "peon" he created, but the player is (statwise) the exact same
Hence, in AHC Bak'al > player, and since the player is just as strong as normal, Bak'al > player under normal circumstances

Anyway, Lari is probably a lot weaker as a boss than she should be since it's a level 79 quest (that unlocks a level 100 raid, go figure)

Bak'al ?= the player, based solely on AHC.
For example, Theorick is a level 45-55 boss, but they are above level 100 in AHC iirc.
I'm pretty sure that the player is weaker in AHC than in normal circumstances, because its not like Theorick just has insanely strong powers that could defeat the guy who conquered the Eye in the Silent Expanse, or he probably would've already conquered it, and the plotline would be broken.
We don't know how AHC reflects powerlevel - stats aren't a good indicator, you need to use comparative stats, because AHC gives opponents stat boosts so that the player feels weaker, if only just in the situation.

Basically, the player isn't as strong as normal in AHC, but because putting stat penalties on players doesn't work very well or feel very good, they make enemies stronger instead.

Not that I disagree, but it's stated that Theorick's ice magic staves off corruption. In that part of AHC the player is a powerful corrupted, so it makes sense that he would be a bit tougher. After all, even Bak'al didn't really want to fight him.

Yes, but Bak'al also doesn't really want to fight you either.
Plus, this is just more evidence to the point that enemies are made stronger because the player isn't meant to be the same as before, but they aren't changing the player's stats.

I wouldn't see combat level as a hard measure of strength. In the case of quests, one that's a relatively higher level isn't necessarily stronger, it might just take place at a later point in the main character's journey. There's a disparity between the strength of a player and the canonical strength of the character they're playing as, and the same goes for all the characters you can't play as. Otherwise you could also argue that some big bearded pirate is more powerful than a Twain that could stave off Corruption, or that the third boss of ToA could potentially take out Amadel.

Lari fights Bak'al right next to the Nexus of Light. She's at her strongest there, where she is extremely close to Orphion, and even then it ends up being a stalemate, with Bak'al's victory being one of trickery over strength.
We recently changed them to be at level. All of the Ragni peoples in that first segment are level 10, but have level 101-103 enemy stats.

Gameplay & Story Segregation at its finest.

ALL LEVEL ASSUMPTIONS ASSUME PLAYER IS HYPOTHETICALLY EQUIPPED WITH BEST IN SLOT EQUIPMENT AT THAT LEVEL.

Bak'al, given their feats throughout the quests and secret discoveries, would be closer (from a gameplay power standpoint) to a player at level 100 (or, at their apex, 130 - assuming the player does scale that far, which they don't and likely never will). Lari herself is level 100 in the Light Forest, and would be closer to level 115-120 when right next to ONoL (see above reply). You aren't expected to be able to fight Bak'al at that point any time soon, hence Lari's response.

Thought of it like more of compatibility problem

Bak'al utilizes darkness magic, of which player has no experience yet and have no means to fight it unlike Lari

  14. lots of good points already mentioned, especially the fact that gameplay and lore can't always line up exactly

i think it's also fair to assume that your fight with lari doesn't represent her full power - even if she is genuinely trying to kill you, she's also having an emotional breakdown and probably isn't as focused/prepared for combat as she could be

All pari does in her boss battle is slap the player around and occasionally use a spell
I think it's probably fair to assume that both lari and bak'al are stronger than the player for at least a while after that, as they're both incredibly powerful and ancient beings and the player is just a human (albeit a very powerful one)
It's also possible to make the same assumption based off of Bob's reincarnation being a beatable boss (eventually) and Bob having defeated bak'al

My biggest problem with bak'al is that if he is so powerful, then how did it take him 4 years to get through the nivla woods? How did he not destroy the province at like 1AP? What is he doing?

It took Bak'al centuries to reach the peak of his power, and even then he was driven back by Bob at 881 AP. Same logic as most player characters - they get stronger as they become more experienced, and Bak'al had centuries of experience to go with by the time he began pummeling major cities left and right, yeeting half the Twains six feet under, and overall becoming a major driving force in the spread of corruption even with his allegiance to a yet unrevealed master whom we only know as Dern Beast.
