I just learned today that 2.0 came out (I haven’t been around for a while LMAO) and idk how the new archetypes work. I don’t know which mage archetype is best for overall damage, and I don’t know if we can still have both heal and ice snake spells no matter which archetype is picked. If someone could give a quick rundown on the things I listed above / mage in general it would be much appreciated <3

All archetypes still have the same 4 base spells, but the functionality of some spells changes significantly depending on the archetype you pick

Riftwalker: plays like pre 2.0 mage, and your damage stacks slowly over time, increasing the damage of all your spells and also causes enemies to deal less damage to you. Riftwalker is very good against bosses and has the greatest damage potential of all mage archetypes

Light Bender: this is the healer archetype, giving you insane healing potential where you summon orbs that deal damage on melee (this replaces your Meteor). The orbs loose health when they deal damage but you can heal them back, which will trigger buffs. The downside is extremely lackluster damage so this needs to be combined with Riftwalker for high damage. The Riftwalker/Light Bender combo is arguably the most powerful hybrid Archetype in the entire game

Arcanist: sacrifices your heal spell to give you a Mana Bank, so hitting enemies allows you to save up mana that you can use. This more or less acts a spell spam archetype, and it does extremely well in scenarios involving large groups of enemies. Damage is a tad bit on the low side, but being able to cast spells frequently makes up for this

Is it possible that they "balance" mage by making Breathless unable to boost orb damage in future updates?

I highly doubt it, they've already acknowledged the strength of the Riftwalker/Light Bender combo and a lot of people would be really upset if they changed that, so I think that's gonna be left untouched. Besides, even though it has high damage potential, it still more or less remains single target damage which isn't all that great overall, they just have an easier time with bosses

yes but for some abilities there is a minimum ability unlocked requirement which requires you to have a certain number of abilities from that archetype already unlocked
and also some abilities prevent you from unlocking some other abilities (usually if their effects clash with each other/ make different changes to the same ability)
