I have been having an extreme amount of lag and low FPS recently, and not just in Wynncraft. I'm talking about 0 to 10 FPS most of the time. At first I thought it was just the version I was playing on or background programs, but in almost every game I play from Don't Starve Together to Binding of Isaac to Plants vs. Zombies 2 Eclise, I have been lower than usual frame rates. Now my laptop isn't the most powerful, but I used to run these games without issue until now. If there is any advice for what I should do, please let me know.

    Here are my specs:

FYI, the version I play on for Wynncraft is 1.18.2 with 8 GB of RAM allocated to it.

My bad since I don't have much to add (other than the typical "scan for a virus"), but like

In reality, it's probably sufficient. Something you might check is if you have any programs running in the background (especially something malicious), as that could explain it. Another thing to consider is if the temperature of your CPU is getting too high, as is often the case with laptops, especially older ones (in which case you can't do much without opening it up). Finally, assuming you are running an SSD for your operating system and this is a recent problem, is it more than 90% full? If an SSD fills up more than around 90%, it can cause a major decrease in performance.

It is SSD and it's about 78% full.

Hmm, probably not the issue then. Your specs should able to get more than 10 fps assuming everything is working right. I'd be inclined to check for anything running in the background or to see if the CPU is thermal throttling and that all the hardware is working as expected.

I keep checking task manager and nothing out of the ordinary is running or taking up large amounts of space. I even have chrome and steam closed while playing Wynncraft.

I just hope my computer isn't damaged by heat or something. It has gotten overheated more than once in the 4 years since I got it, but it hasn't happened again in months and the lag started just 2 weeks ago. It's so bad that I can't even complete Fallen Factory anymore because the gears on the conveyor belt freeze my screen.

You could check to see if it's overheating now. Typically overheating isn't going to kill components if it only happens once or twice. Consistently overheating can shorten the lifespan of hardware, but I've never heard of it reducing performance without it currently being thermal throttling.

I just checked and it's not overheating. Nor Minecraft using up too much processing power either:

This is what Task Manager was displaying while playing Minecraft.

Also I switched to 1.16.5 and for both versions I have maximum distance set to 6 chunks, yet I'm still getting single-digit frame rates.

    something is clearly wrong
minecraft is a cpu heavy game and your cpu is not a bad one

what arguments did you give your client?

You can always use something like OptiFine to make things run smoothly, turning lesser animations of like particles can really cut down on lag

The best argument is pi/2 radians, as this is imaginary

You mean just "-Xmx8G" in the argument line or the argument with "-Xmx8G" in it? Because if the latter I already tried that with my 1.18.2 client and it didn't work.

What else is using up RAM? It seems like you aren't reaching the limits of the hardware (although you can't really be sure from task manager). Have you updated your OS, graphics drivers or any other software that might affect it recently?

There are about 100 background processes are very minor and/or are just part of the regular ones installed on Windows like Adobe. Nothing suspicious seems to be going on, especially since the limit aren't being reach anyway. I haven't updated (or at least manually) anything in awhile. I'll double check then if anything should be updated.
