Professions were added in 1.18 "The Economy Update" since then many complained... many loved... many debated and many cooked steak (metaphorically of course... probably). Given this, and since the last time something like this was done as far as i can see was 2019 i'm putting forth a form.

The Wynncraft Professions Opinions Form

My intention with this is to gather as much feedback possible so that it may be published in around a weeks time. The thread is comprised of three sections,

1. The first is an introduction and asks you some basic details that i'll be using to make sure their ain't any duplicates and to filter people down into two groups;
2. Those who do professions: Will be given access to their own section where they can say what they want and give some feedback
3. Those who don't: Same ordeal, own section, give feedback.

For those on track 2 you have 5 required questions to awnser. With some not required but helpful ones for me...

It'll certainly be interesting! I'm currently deciding the best way to publish them, i think i'll do a post recapping it but also give access to a "redacted and condensed" version of the responses which i've been going through and doing whilst they come in. Keeping people anyomous but still letting people have access to a wide variety of data they can use in future posts.


I think i'll redact two pieces of info on the sheet i think: The Name (of course); and if the person has a Lvl130~ prof. Why? because of the fact that having a 130~ prof is rare but if your a member of the olden years community i'm not sure how many are active anymore.

 

I wonder if there will be a bias towards players that like professions. People using the forums are typically more invested in the game and willing to do stuff like professions than the average player I would expect.

 

I'm sure there are a few people here who hate professions (like me) for the objectively correct reasoning that they take waaayyyy too much time to grind to be worth it.

OKAY this is a very short and bad poll. Let me offer my criticisms:

There are only 4 profer questions in the poll, 2 of which is to explain your reasoning on the other 2 questions. How do you expect to get the full feedback of profers/non-profers without asking more questions? For example, why did you not ask “What should be added?” or “What do you hate about profs and why?”

You should also obtain more meaningful data on your poll as well. Simply splitting Profer vs non-profer isn’t going to cut it. There are profers who spend 10s of hours while there are other profers who spend THOUSANDS of hours. Their opinions between each group vary wildly from each other. You need to subdivide these groups. I would suggest the following:

• Highest total level on 1 class
• Highest profession
• Combat level (yes this matters on how efficient you can do profs!)
• Whether they played craftsman
• Approximately how many hours they spent on leveling
• Approximately how much money they spent on materials/ingredients for leveling crafting
• Etc.

This is a low effort poll. If you want better results, read my advice. As a profer with MAX level in all professions, this doesn’t allow me to give you my full view at all other than very open-ended questions.

Also, max level is lv 132, not lv 130.

I do want to say, this wasn't meant as a form to garner what people want to see, more a reflection of how people feel they are in their current state which is why is why there isn't a "What should be added?" like question. I think as well trying to split into small small SMALL groups as you've noted would have been the best. As for the the max level thing i should have noted down better that its 132 and not 130, not sure why its wrong although i've been checking every reponse who say they have one to make sure they are being honest there because i already struck a response for lying about it early on... along side some other stuff they had awnsered with... so i'll update the form now to make that actually correct.

As for better results, i never intended this form as a "suggest features" form—it was for the current opinions on profs and the reasons why of those opinions—however doing a form for that is however something that is needed and i should have though about that before doing this.

tl;dr for that bit of text: I did a terrible job of this, i take responibility and don't deny it was rushed, done out of reflex and i'm not going to sit around and wait for it to finish before making a new one.

As for moving forward; i'm not going to concide defeat, i'm taking what you've said onboard and i'm going to do another one of these. If you up for it i'd love to hear what you'd like to be asked in it even if its a 1000 word essay i'll take the time to read it. As for this current one, i'll let it continue and run its course, publish the results and leave it. I think some people may find them interesting to read and may point out some common critismns—which isn't grinding hopefully—that can be thought about. I don't know.

This has probably done me no good in credibility for future polls, saying you did a terrible job and then coming right back and doing another one in however long time is never a good sign but i'm ready to improve for it. Feedback is important and even if it makes me look like an idiot i gotta accept it.


EDIT: also i think the threads name doesn't help either... feedback is a terrible word and should be used for very select purposes, none of which this is so i'm changing that now to just be "Opinions Poll"

 

God knows what i was thinking there, been changed now though! I'll go through the awnsers currently and just see if the people who said yes are 130 or 132 and check them on the Wynncraft Stats page and change them if need be. I don't think i will need to, anyone who awnsered that question probably knew already and just hasn't said anything prior.

but also like.... level 132? c'mon... why does it go two over. Why do you do these things Wynncraft, why.

 

No worries. I may have been a bit harsh on my wording. Partly because ~99% if the polls I see on here has flaws…

I believe 132 is a thing because of level ranges for crafting. All levels that start with 0 has a range up to +2. So you cannot simply just stop at Lv 130 since that is just a single level. For example, Lv 100 means a level range of Lv 100-102.

Thank you to the ~20 who have submitted a response in the last 18 hours or so, only had to strike one response out of them all for being complete "purposeful non-sensicalility". I.e. they don't grind professions but have multiple over level 100... you know, that they didn't grind for... it doesn't make sense and the feedback for the "love it or hate it" selector was even more ambigous then a toadstools place in the desert during a winter solstice

 

With a day to go i'll bump this one last time! The form will close at 10PM BST (GMT+1) probably, and the results published on the following day. Thank you to everyone who has participated, i will be posting a new form that is a lot more of what was expected of this at some point and i implore everyone to keep an eye out for it.

If anyone has any questions they might want to see added to this more indepth form please send them in this thread or to me privately. These will—at my discretion—be included in a optional section called "community questions"! However this may change and be inserted into one of the other sections there currently are.

If you want to submit a question heres three core things:
1) The question has to be clear and concise in what it is asking; you can use a hypethical or a direct question but try keep it too the point.

Spoiler: Example

Lets take a current question on the "Misc. Feedback" section of this new form: "You've just been informed that the profession system is being reworked! However, it changes the current level boundries. This will mean you are at the wrong level relative to your exp gained before the rework, would you be ok with this and why?".

This question sets up the premise, gives you the problem and asks you the question, the reason for this question is to try get information on whether players are adverse to drastic change to levels of the profession system and why this is; similar to the combat level fiasco that has happened similarly before. Its not perfect but you can use the second point to resolve any uncertainties you couldn't figure out in the question.

2) You can add a description to your question to provide any formatting requirements or ways players can better respond. Many of the questions in the form have a link to the Wynncraft Stats page for players to use!

3) Your question can of course make use of all response types excluding "File Upload" for simplicity. Your options are:

• Short answer
• Paragraph
• Multi-choice (single-choice)
• Checkboxes (multi-choice)
• Dropdown (select menu)
• Linear Scale (1 to 5 etc)
• Multi-choice grid (one choice per row)
  
• Tickbox grid (multi choice per row)
• Date
  
• Time
