Why Ragni Soldier?

Hello, this is something I've been wondering about for quite some time, but why exactly are we as a player considered to be a Ragni Soldier or even a Ragni Guard (not 100% sure we are ever called a Ragni Guard, since it's been a while since I've done the quests, so don't quote me on this) several times by various quest NPCs?

Even the King of Ragni doesn't refer to us as a Ragni Soldier, but rather a "soldier of Wynn" which makes more sense but is still not 100% right in my opinion.

The correct term for our character should be a Fruman Mercenary or a Wynn Mercenary if nothing else. Lore-wise, I guess we have orders like we are these Frumans who are sent to help out Ragni/Wynn in the war. But in reality, we are not obliged by anything to actually do anything to help the province, we only help when there's a reward in it for us, which makes us mercenaries or bounty hunters or something similar, not soldiers. I think soldiers would be paid a monthly or yearly wage, not per job.

I get this is all about the difference between gameplay and lore. It would be stupid if u got paid emeralds only like once every Wynn month (however long that would be) and did not get any rewards from quests since you would get emeralds as your wage. But still, I think us being called a Ragni Soldier is just wrong.

The starting quest doesn't even imply we change armors or equipment to fit a Ragni Soldier's attire, so I don't think we can say that quest NPCs could just mistake us for Ragni Soldiers based on our look. I think the term "Ragni Soldier" for the player is mostly used by Quest NPCS that are like Army Officers, like the Generals and other officers who just randomly decide that we are under their command and order us around, but despite that, they release us to do our own thing immediately after doing one job for them.

I hope this will be changed in quests dialogue if the Wynn Province Rework ever happens since I just don't think it makes much sense.

edit: Not even mentioning that for like half the game or more than half we leave the Wynn province completely (the province we were ordered to help and protect) and nobody ever gives a crap lol.

 

I think changing the player's title to "Wynn Soldier" or "Soldier of Wynn" makes sense, since the player is a human wearing heavy armor, something normal people wouldn't wear.

 

After Wynnexcavation site D we are known as "The Hero of Wynn" which is a cool title to have

Despite this, Lucio, Elphaba and Aledar still plan to use us as the sacrifice to EO even though we have saved both Gavel and Wynn (we saved gavel from the decay by killing the parasite and saved wynn from being annihilated by Amadel)

 

Yea, all things considered, we should be famous all across Wynn and Gavel by that point (that's if the player has done the quests beforehand), but ye let's still sacrifice the biggest hero since Bob.

edit: this is not hate on the RTD questline, it's still one of my favorite questlines in the game, but this is kinda funny - well I mostly prefer the first quest, the second one, not that much, but there are definitely worse quests

I mean heroes are already expected to sacrifice themselves for the greater good just from their job alone. It isn’t a stretch to then expect the player to make a sacrifice. Plus I guess since our player is such a loner that no one would miss them, so it would also be the least harmful way.

And Bob sacrificed himself too :3

Also them: Opens up gateway to a dark dimension right on Derns doorstep with no precautions or safety measures therefore putting the entire world at risk, then immediately die within 10 minutes of entry leading the player to do everything Alone and kill the Overseer of Wynn (it sees u pee) to access the portal to dern all without any rewards and nobody knowing all the good you did for the world :D

 

Hold up, hold up. My memory's also a bit rusty when it comes to these quests, but I always felt like the wynnexcavation quests were too separated from everything, despite having such big importance. It's honestly extremely likely that the wynn excavation questline has a planned rework, considering how old (and frankly mechanically outdated) it is. Plus, I don't think that we can really 100% consider ourselves heroes

we were fooled by Amadel into bringing him all the crystals. Sure, if it wasnt us it could have been another person to take our place, but that doesnt change the fact that we were naive

Plus wasn't it revealed in the dark forest ultimate discovery that the parasite planted seeds of decay (or whatever that was)? Killing only the parasite had pratically no effect
But yet again I see nobody mention the fact that (I'm pretty positive) we canonically took down the fallen factory, resolving corkus' problem of wild mechs, I feel like that was the one time we actually shined as heroes.
To answer the ragni soldier question, I feel like that was just a writer's fault. Any references to us being a ragni soldier must be archaic by now, was it even always revealed that we came from Fruma, or was that added later?

 

From the sealed letters yes, but beyond that… idk. Bob’s lore is the real one that needs a rewrite. Reincarnation makes 0 sense.
