i just wanted a final note before this thread gets necroed so here goes
thanks everyone who played, i had a good time in the short term while it lasted, and i appreciate all of your time put into your characters

if you're curious the lore behind the name of the forum, ill explain here so i don't leave too many loose ends
the main NPC you've been traveling with (Era Siannodel) is the "figure of aer", not because she's sent by the gods or whatnot, but because the story starts by a mysterious cloaked figure following you. i was eventually going to connect Era to the main deity of the world Aer (which is where the planet gets its name), but I never got there DDD;

for reasons on why i decided to quit the forum, turns out i don't have enough time to run a forum game, study, game, stream, and run an entire community at the same time
and at the time i was spending pretty much all my freetime on streaming/prepping for streams already

I hope that bit of lore was interesting enough for you to keep reading! This roleplay is more of a freestyle-type thing to 1. help me learn to adapt to players doing random things and to 2. build this particular homebrew world a bit further for an irl D&D campaign i might run. Well, yes also because the only other not locked roleplay topic is kind of inactive–full credit goes to Exvihus and Void Rift for this idea (insert credit where credit is due)–but we’ll ignore that reason for now.
As the Game Master, I will be playing a character in the storyline, but more in the sense of an important NPC that most of you players will interact with rather than a player character–it wouldn’t be fun knowing how the world works already. As you travel through the world, the progression of your characters will mostly be through newly discovered lore in general, but also through upgrades/increases of the power, obtaining items, and other cool abilities.

Quick note: This homebrew world was initially inspired by an excerpt from “The Inheritance of Exile: Stories from South Philly”, though most things will probably differ from it other than a few early scenes. Insert credit where credit is due.

I’m adding some more infos to the capitols of each continent right now, but I probably won’t finish much because of the massive amount of tests I have (in the next 5 days including today I have 8 assessments…)
Same goes for storyline and GMing, that will (hopefully) start next Tuesday for all app.s

Sitting up, you look around and see a small alcove, surrounded by trees, with a few patches of wild grass littered around the clearing. How did you get here? You remember running, hunger, and pain. You remember a beam of ice, a thrown explosive, a line of shields. All around you, the forest leaves fall in a variety of colors. It’s autumn.

Heading towards the market, you look to buy food for the day, and maybe a few sweets. All around you, the trees around the city have grown into various fall hues. It’s autumn in Crotia.
Crotia is a city in the country Gordal on the continent of Tyvia

 

HELP IN ERISIA
Well I guess I'm just gonna walk in one direction till I find something or something finds me

There is no immediate danger.
You walk for what seems miles through the woods, seeing the remnants of what seems to be a battle. A row of fallen trees stands by with their stumps covered in ice. You see arrows stuck into the ground, and a bit of blood trailing backward out of the woods.
As the forest thins, a road appears, trailing into the distance. One side of the road heads to a village in the distance, bringing up the same memories of hunger and pain, but also fear. The blood leads towards the village.
The other direction leads into the distance, but in the very, very far distance, you see a large city built into the trees. Towers extend past the tips of the tallest trees and extend into the clouds. But you think there is something above there. A name comes to you: Sylvia.
On the road, a wagon approaches from the village side. As they pass, they wave to you and mention short greetings before continuing along their path. A cloaked figure approaches from the city side. They are around a quarter of an hour away. Your eyesight is incredible. The sun shines brightly overhead. It is midday.

I stroll around, looking for some small snacks from the vendors all around. I munch on a few, then find where I'll stay, preferably somewhere not crowded. I'll then explore the city and perhaps a small bit outside of it.

Snacks are plentiful throughout the market. None of them are artistically perfect, but their tastes are absolutely astonishing. From what you’ve seen on your trip to Tyvian Gordal (continent name, country name), nothing is as poor or downtrodden as the legends tell them to be. Fishy…
Eventually, you find an inn by the name of “The Feather Token” in the heart of the city. It’s a bit crowded, but the locals tell you it’s the best place if you’ve got a decent amount of coin. You head inside, quickly barter with the human woman working the desk, and end up with a quaint yet comfortable room.
The city of Crotia doesn’t have much in terms of tourist attractions. Mainly an industrial “boom town”, the people here mainly serve other members of the city with their products and services. However, you do see a few noteworthy structures during your meander:
1. A large, fenced-off district of noble houses surrounds a mansion, probably owned by the city’s highest ranking noble, or perhaps a member of the king’s family. You can’t see much from here.
2. A ruin of buildings lies in the distance a quarter of an hour’s walk away. A glint of something shiny catches your eye.
3. A minka stands in the center of a large road with a sign on the large side reading “Sia Guild” on each side. There seems to be a quest board?
The town bustles with activity. It is midday.

 

A cloaked figure huh

But theres no use in just standing around and doing nothing so I shall head towards the city while readying myself to retaliate incase the hooded figure does anything unfunny

I’d consider consuming them but its still daytime and I don’t want to draw suspicion that quickly especially with what just happened

i happily walk down the road until i reach the quest board. I look to see what I can do.

You begin following the wagon towards the city. As you walk, the cloaked figure draws closer and closer before. They don’t seem to be hostile. When you’re about 30 feet from them, they suddenly disappear. All that’s left is a huff of the wind. You draw a bit closer before hearing a voice from beside your ear.
“Hello Aberion.”
It is midday.

You walk over to the questboard, clearly showing interest. After reading for a few minutes of reading through the listed quests, an elven woman appears from inside the building.
“You are Aphoria, I trust?” It’s not a question.
You give an affirmative response.
“Your presence is required inside.”
She holds the door for you and motions for you to enter.
The door is open. It is midday.

 

I walk inside, slightly nervous.

 

I stop walking and I respond in a calm tone
“It seems you know me and yet I don’t know you, so I request that you tell me who you are before we continue this”

The woman leads you into an office room in the back. She knocks on the door, says, “It’s Aphoria,” and waves you in. At the desk, an elven man sits behind the desk, filing through some papers.
As you walk in, the man looks up says to you, “Ah, Aphoria! Perfect timing for you to come around." He pauses and brings out a folder from the cabinet. "So, how do you know Era? After all she’s a pretty important member of the family.”

 

Puzzled, I ask "Era? who's that? what family?"

The figure turns away before saying, "Instructions can come later. Follow me." They trod towards the city.

“You don’t know her? That’s peculiar.”
You only barely catch his last words: “I wonder why she’d ask for you…”
“Anyways,” he continues, “I’ve got a request for you from Era. She’s asking you to travel to the capitol of Aylivian Sylvia to meet her at your soonest possible convenience.
However, you remember that it’s difficult to cross country borders without being a member of the Sia Guild.
At your look of concern he replies, “You don’t have to worry about traveling, the guild will cover that. Just, be quick. Era is pretty impatient, especially when it comes to other people. And any anger she’ll probably take out on me the next time we meet.”
He gives you directions to the docks and a ship that’s chartered for you, and will leave whenever you board it.
