What's this area behind the Portal to Dern?

So I was zipping around the Portal to Dern area, when I saw this:



It looks very much like the paths you can find around the area behind the EO and the higher places up by the mountains. I couldn't Charge to it, though, since there were barriers in my way.

I checked the map on WynnData, and found this:



You can very clearly tell there's a long pathway nestled between the mountains, as I saw. But there's also, to the southeast, another light-gray patch, on the other side of the mountains. I couldn't see it from the Portal to Dern area, sadly.

Maybe some mystery area? I don't see why the builders would build some area that's not accessible by players, so perhaps it's actually possible to reach it. Given the direction of the path, it's possible that the path could extend into the mountains via a tunnel and meet with the area off to the side.

Spoiler: Another thing

While I was going around the area, I also found a black carpet on one of the Dern spikes I landed on. It was a few blocks from the very tip, but there were blocks on all four sides of the block under the carpet. Pretty suspicious.

I tried throwing emeralds on it, but nothing happened, so I assumed it was either just an accident or irrelevant detail. It was on the west side of the Portal to Dern area, if you're interested. Here's a screenshot:

And so: does anyone know what this path is? Or the little area on the wrong side of the mountains? If so, please do tell me about it. If not, maybe it's some secret that no one's noticed (or at least mentioned) yet...

 

Could possibly be an unused area or yet-to-be used area. I ain't complaining if we get more SE content in the future!

I think that probaly is just a little detail, so when you look from up you can see something

 

there does appear to be a tunnel leading to that grey edge

 

You should throw a mythic into the black carpet and see what happens >:)

 

it's Olmic Ruins. That area behind the portal is a whole cave with stuff in it, blocked off by barriers. The Silent Expanse, before it reached the extreme it is today, used to inhabit Olm in every area. Now, only what might've been the capital remains in the form of the Ruined Olmic City. The few buildings in the Forests have been repurposed, the acid from the Wastes destroyed their history, the Valley warped the crumbling stonework of their homes, and the Pathway swallowed whatever structures might've been there into the void.

also the carpet is just hiding a sea lantern or glowstone beneath it. Road to Dern is old as balls and there's some like 2017 build stuff being stinky there
