    I frequently pick up item with a description too long to fit on my screen. Things like the name of the item and stat changes are cut off on the top of the screen. Is there a way to change the size or scroll in the box?

    In the regular Minecraft settings, you can decrease the size of your GUI, which will help fit the item texts on your screen.

    You can decrease the size of your GUI as the guy above me said or you can try the mod Wynntils which allows you to scroll in the description
