Just played through Realm of Light II - Taproot. IDK how I feel about the tree making me kill the funny mayor man. Considering I chose to side with the detective in the factory quest earlier, I have mixed feelings about covering up for the doctor being the "right" choice.

What are your thoughts on this?

I'm not really a huge a fan of that whole moral dilemma scenario, it kinda feels counter-intuitive with Urelix being the right choice while also
being the force you side with in A Hunter's Calling
, alongside Urelix's reward in An Iron Heart P2 being called Shameful Greaves. The moral dilemma is just weird, imo it should be replaced with something about the orc war, that's also an arc thats around lv 62.

I think the decision is more of explained in a later Realm of Light quest: the Light doesn't really have any "morals", it's just simply about surviving. So in this case, it's sacrifice the few to protect the many. If that's what it takes for the Light to survive, then that's what must be done in Orphion's view.
And yeah I found it weird that it was called "Shameful" even though the funny dog says we have to side with him

Honestly? This may just be my least favourite part of the questline (yes I like RoL III sue me). The whole thing with An Iron Heart is that you have to make a decision and then live with that, and the fact that this quest undoes all of that by making you pick a specific choice just destroys the two hours of reviewing philosophy papers I went through during that quest.
this is an actual thing I did cause I thought it would be funny to see what people who knew what they were talking about thought about this

spoilers ahead for the final quest (idk how to mark things as spoiler)

AHC does a perfect job of making you side with this guy, as the whole point of the quest is to screw up all of your hard work and make you side with the bad guy...
    but wait
wait dern and light both say that this is the guy they support
    . . .
    that doesn't make sense
why does everyone hate the mayor

aaanyway with that minor detail aside, AHC makes you regret your decisions just like An Iron Heart does.
Realm of Light II miserably fails to do so - I regretted nothing because they put Urelix in a good light, making it seem like the right thing to do, which goes against everything every other quest says. The game forcing you into an option and then Orphion going "well gee looks like you made the right choice" is also an issue, cause you didn't make any choice - the game doesn't let you make a choice.

Ok, I see this far too often and it's getting annoying. The choice you make in a Realm of Light 2 isn't supposed to be a moral choice. The whole point is Orphion is attempting to test if you are willing to do whatever it takes, not your moral values, he wants to know if you can kill when needed regardless of moral values. This is why suggesting all Roads leads to peace is dumb, he needs to put you in a morally complex situation in order to see if you are willing to do what it takes regardless, making it something much less morally complex would ruin the point entirely.

They didn't need to take Urelix for it - it messes with other plot lines in a way which totally makes your earlier decision meaningless

I’m fairly sure a CT member has stated that they’ll eventually change that stage of AHC to something that serves the influence of Dern.

It's not morally right, but it's what has to be done. Urelix is a shitty person, but stopping Urelix literally means some cities across Wynn and Gavel collapse. Wynn cities collapsing = more corruption spreading = not something orphion wants

none of the others serve the influence of Dern, but I mean that part of the quest is pretty outdated. It still uses the old laboratory.

Also there is a difference between siding with Urelix and actively leading people to their death for Urelix.

I still feel like making it a choice the player has already made isnt the best decision. Like theres a good chance, I'd guess more than 50%, that the player has already reported urelix and proven that they are not willing to do whatever it takes to save as many people as possible
