Rabaluda was wandering, through the swamps, annoyed that these little puny monsters DARED attack him. He had heard of some group of miners or another that was paying well for the fix to some problem. Truthfully, he needed the money, he had been spending a lot trying to find gear to match his power. It was becoming quite a drain on his finances, and he needed whatever he could get his hands on. He only hoped this job would pay better than the last, not give him some useless dagger like that little hobbit did.

As he approached the miners at the promised destination, the ground began to shake and several of the miners fell into a very large pit. He managed to grab one of them with his spell and lift them up, but the others were lost. "WHAT do you think you guys are doing, don't you know this area is dangerous," said an elf, seemingly coming out of nowhere. "YOU! Wynn soldier, from the looks of you. Thank you for saving that man, but you are no longer needed here, please this is MUCH too dangerous for you" the elf had said. "I'll have you know I am more than capable of taking care of myself, elf lady" lRabaluda retorted, angry that this elf didn't know who HE was. "My name is lari, and that will be enough. I am going down into this pit to fix the problem, and I will ask you please ensure your own safety, we are dealing with a very dangerous creature" lari said, jumping into the pit.

Rabaluda was shocked. He felt he had no choice but to follow this stupid elf, who clearly didn't know they were dealing with the great Rabaluda. As he followed her into the pit, she used some strange foreign magic to cause vines to spurt up from the ground, attempting to slow him down. "What does she think she is doing" he muttered to himself. He cast a ball of fire to burn the vines away, and as he followed her it was clear he was much more fit, as he gained on her. Eventually, he was right beside her, and she gave up and let him walk next to her. The silence was immensely awkward, and there was clearly tension in the air.

"So uh.., what do wynn soldiers do in their off-time" Lari blurted out, trying to break the silence. "I train. I wish to become the best, and therefore I will become the best. It's a matter of mindset" Rabaluda proudly replied. "The best at what? Combat? Crafting? Mercenary work?" Lari asked. "Everything. I do not wish to spend my time in fear of the future like the citizens of the city I protect. I wish to be better, to stop the source of whatever the problems wynn faces is" Rabaluda said. This shocked Lari, did wynn folk not know what was causing their problems? She had always assumed they knew, and just couldn't do anything about it. This bothered her, but not as much as the split in the path that they were approaching. Her magic could not tell which direction was the correct one.

"We must split up," Lari said "I cannot detect with my magic which way the creature is". "Fine with me, if I find the creature before you it means I do not have to split the pay" Rabaluda stated. She did not know what he meant by this, but she did not have time to ask. She made her way into the right tunnel, and Rabaluda made his way into the left. Lari followed the tunnel for what felt like an hour until finally, she encountered the creature. She hoped Rabaluda was okay, she did not know his location, but she hoped his path was equally as uneventful as his. As she prepared to try to calm the creature, suddenly a section of the ceiling caved, in, and from the top fell Rabaluda.

"AH! That hurt, and... WHAT IS THAT" he said, staring at what appeared to be an immense worm, far beyond the scale of any creature he had seen before. He did not want to admit it, but he wasn't confident he could kill this thing, whatever it was. He certainly wouldn't be known as the man who didn't try, and he summoned another ball of fire and launched it directly toward the creature. "What are you doing, no" lari shouted! The impact of the fireball was nonexistent, and the creature responded by sending a shockwave directly towards Rabaluda, knocking him unconscious as he slammed into the back wall of the cavern. He would certainly be feeling that later.

As Rabaluda awoke, he was in a bed, in a camp he did not remember ever being in. Standing over him, applying medicine to wounds he did not remember getting was the elf woman. "You really messed up, you know that. I wasn't able to calm the grootslang down and I had to kill it" Lari said, and Rabaluda swore he could hear tears in her voice. "I uh... Didn't know that was your plan. I apologize, where I am from we typically take care of monsters by killing them. We don't have methods to get rid of monsters non violently" he lamely replied, he didn't know what to say. "It would be best if we never see each other again, please just leave the decay and its problems to me. I can handle them, I ensure you" Lari said. "You need to rest for a day or two, you got banged up pretty good," Lari said, walking out of the tent in such a calm manner that Rabaluda was certain that she must be hurting. For the first time in a long time, he felt awful for his actions.

A week or so after this incident, Rabaluda was out in dark forest, he had heard of someone searching for some rare ingredients that he had acquired in his travels. As he approached a seemingly familiar-looking camp, he encountered lari yet again. "Oh, I didn't know it was you I wouldn't have accepted this request otherwise" Rabaluda blurted. "Why, are you afraid I might do something? I am not violent like you, Wynn soldier" Lari snapped back. Her words cut him, but it was only fair he supposed. "I uh, well anyway here is the stuff you requested, no charge for them" he tried leaving. "Wait. I need you to do something for me before you leave. Hold this" she handed him a strange-looking potion. As she led him into some strange scar in the ground, he felt something... large? he couldn't describe it, it was as if he was under the gaze of a titan.

As she cast a spell, the potion exploded in Rabaluda's hands, and he jumped back. "AH," he exclaimed. "Sorry! It wasn't supposed to do that" lari said, handing him another potion. "Try to hold it still," she said. Rabaluda wasn't sure that was an accident, but he wasn't about to say otherwise. As she cast a spell, this time the potion lit up with a strange color. "Quickly now, pour that onto the ground" lari demanded. Rabaluda did as she asked, and there was no noticeable change to the ground. "BLAST IT ALL" she screamed, "that was my last idea! I no longer have any methods to try, nothing new to test". "Is there anything I can do to help" Rabaluda asked?

Lari stared at him, but he suddenly noticed she wasn't staring at him at all. He felt it, the presence again, but he could not see anything. "Uh, what's going on," he asked. "Follow me please, it's very important you do so," Lari said in a calm tone, that was clearly hiding panic. As Rabaluda and Lari walked together, the silence wasn't there. In fact, he felt... overwhelmed. Nothing was happening, but he still felt like his life had inexpiably changed. As he reached a door, he heard a voice. "My pulse... it is time for the old guard to change, and let the new guard rise. This is your destiny my pulse" the overwhelming presence said.

"What did he tell you. What did he say? TELL ME NOW" lari bellowed. "Uh. Something about the old guard changing, and the new guard being let in. I don't know what he-" Rabaluda stopped, lari was crying. Tears flowed from her eyes in massive rivers, and she collapsed to the ground. "No, this can't be, I still have so much left to do, this can't be it" she sobbed. Rabaluda did not know what to do, but suddenly the door opened. "My pulse. She will be fine, come" the voice gently said. As Rabaluda entered the door, he stopped. He couldn't leave her like, that, and went back and comforted her. "I see. You have chosen well, my pulse" the voice said. For some reason, he felt as if this would be the last time he heard that voice.

Rabaluda took Lari to cinfras, where the two of them stayed in a double bedroom room in an inn. "Are you okay, you don't seem well' Rabaluda said, hoping there was something, anything, he could do. "My destiny. it's done. There is nothing left for me in this world" Lari said, oddly calm. "There is something left for you, you could come with me for a bit. I still got a few jobs left to do and I don't feel good leaving you here, alone. There are reports of a crashed ship, I've been sent by the Gavelian government to investigate, how about you come with me, just for a little while" he softly said. "Okay. I... think I can do that" Lari gently replied back.

As the two of them approached the ship... well at this point it wasn't a ship, it was more mountain than it was a ship... regardless, they made their way up the mountain to the ship. As they climbed the rugged terrain, Lari nearly slipped, and Rabaluda grabbed her, lifting her up. As the two were inches apart from each other, Rabaluda felt... strongly. They stood there for minutes, but as a piece of debris suddenly fell past Lari's head, their mind turned back to their mission. They finally reached the summit, and they could see from the ship that something had been taken, and a cannon had smoke still coming from it. They began their way towards the bandit camp

As they reached the bandit camp, they fought their way inside. Well, fought as in Rabaluda did all the fighting, and lari mostly healed and supported Rabaluda. A bandit suddenly approached Lari, sword raised in hand when suddenly he was covered entirely in ice. Rabaluda simply nodded to lari, and they reached the top of the bandit camp. Sitting at the cannon was a bandit, and she simply said "Alright, I give up ye got me! It was us who shot the ship down, but we were hired by that bigwig from the airforce base! Swear on me mum's life!". Rabaluda began their way to the airforce base, the silence between them only growing.

As they reached the Levtus airforce bases leader's office, he attacked them on sight. "YOU WILL NEVER TAKE MY SCROLLS" he shouted. Rabaluda dispatched him with shocking amounts of ease, and they reported their findings back to the Gavelian government, who paid them rather handsomely. "So what now," Lari asked "What do we do now that this mission is over". "I would like to spend more time with you," Rabaluda said. This was it. He could see it in her eyes, he thought he could. He could not miss his chance, he could not blow his one opportunity.

"Actually, I have a truth to confess. I don't want to spend some more time with you, I want to spend forever with you. I have since we first met," he said, hoping she felt the same. A silence that only lasted for seconds, but felt like hours arose. The two of them stared into each other's eyes, and it was as if the rivalry was back. No one was sure what to do until the moment lari spoke."I think... I would like that as well. Might I ask though, what is your name". "Rabaluda" he chuckled. They both laughed. That wouldn't be the last time they laughed together, either...

This was quite an "interesting" read I have to admit. Even though the plot points were indeed foreseeable due to the nature of them being based on the ingame storyline, I could still catch myself on the edge of my seat from moment to moment. The massively extensive and colorful descriptions help enhance the readability by giving it a fresh coat of paint differentiating it from its predecessor. I especially enjoyed the romance filled sequences, both regarding the development of their "intimate" relationship as well as their clash of ideals. Being able to view their predicament from a new angle greatly gladdens me that I chose to picked up this read.
