    Abstract

Many profers question whether what ingredients to use when leveling their crafting professions. So far, there has been anecdotal evidence that T1 ingredients give a x1.5 multiplier over t0 ingredients for the same crafting profession, yet there is no solid evidence between all variations of ingredients. This thread will go into detail how each tier, number of ingredients, and the level of the ingredient (soon:tm:) influence the amount of XP gained per craft.

    Methodology

11 datasets consisting of enough materials and ingredients for 50 crafts per dataset were gathered. 50 of each tier of ingredient of T0-T3 were gathered to provide an analysis of XP gained between T0-T3. 1050 Rotten Flesh was bought to provide an analysis between using no ingredients for crafting, incrementing by 1, up to 6 ingredients per craft. These datasets were then compared to provide a multiplier analysis between each dataset in comparison with other datasets.

Crokee was the player to craft the materials, with all professions Lv. 132 to provide consistency over XP values.

    Major Assumptions:
    • The type of crafting profession that uses the same number of materials (i.e. Woodworking vs. Cooking) does not have an influence over XP gained per craft.
    • XP decay on Lv. 1 materials vs. Lv. 20 materials are the same due to Lv. 132 professions.
    • Different stats of level of ingredient, tier of ingredient, number of ingredients used, and level of materials used are multiplicative of each other.

    Results

This spreadsheet contains all the raw data and analysis done [1].

    Effect of Tier of Ingredients

Table 1 demonstrates the effect of using different tiers of ingredients in a craft. Only 1 of each tier of ingredient was used. For the 'No Ing' row, the value is estimated based on a different dataset which will be described in the next subsection of this thread.

Each value corresponds to the effect the row has over the column. For example, using a T0 ingredient over a T1 gives an XP value that is x0.82 of that of T1. On the contrary, using a T1 ingredient over a T0 gives an XP value that is x1.22 of that of T0.

Table 1: Effect of the tier of ingredients over using other tier of ingredients.

Due to RNG, it can be estimated that the true XP multiplier is the following when comparing to using no ingredients:
    • No ingredient: 1
    • T0: 2
    • T1: 2.5
    • T2: 3.5
    • T3: 5

    Effect of Number of Ingredients

Table 2 demonstrates the effect of using a certain number of ingredients over any other certain amount of ingredients. Read the same way as Table 2, each value corresponds to the effect the row has over the column. For example, using a 1 ingredient over 2 gives an XP value that is x0.5 of that of 2. On the contrary, using a 2 ingredients over 1 gives an XP value that is x1.99 of that of 1.

Table 2: Effect of the number of ingredients used over other numbers of ingredients used.

This backs up the claim that using more ingredients over less ingredients gives more XP overall for less time used to gather materials. For instance, using 6 ingredients over 3 gives a multiplier of x1.96, which essentially means using double the ingredients for the same amount of materials gives double the XP. As such, it is more efficient to fill up the crafting table with as many ingredients as possible than that of without.

Due to RNG, it can be estimated that the true XP multiplier is the following when comparing to using no ingredients:
    • No ingredient: 1
    • 1 ingredient: 2
    • 2 ingredient: 4
    • 3 ingredient: 6
    • 4 ingredient: 8
    • 5 ingredient: 10
    • 6 ingredient: 12
High standard deviation was observed for the 5 ingredient dataset, hence why the multiplier is higher than it should be.

    Conclusion

As usual, it is often desirable to use as many high tier ingredients as possible. With varying drop rates of ingredients ranging from 1/2000 to 1/2, profers must decide what tier of ingredients they should grind for in order to efficiently gain the most amount of XP as their availability allows.

Am I correct in reading that if you want to optimise xp per ingredient than 5 ings is the most optimal? Seems rather odd.

Skewed average due to RNG. It's standard deviation is kinda high. I should add the most likely ideal values into the analysis, thanks.
