Imagine, for a moment, you're attempting a HICH speedrun. You're 52 seconds ahead of the world record, and you're wearing one of these, crafted with voidstone and starfish. You're grinding at church. All you need is 452 xp, one kill worth of mobs, and you hit 106. You know your build can handle doing enough damage to kill these mobs, which are already on low health. You press the right button and then the left button twice, casting Multihit (you're assassin). However, at this time, you see the message indicating one of your items is on low durability. You're sure it doesn't matter, but, lo and behold, when the multihit finishes, the mobs are left at 3 hp. In a panic, you check your inventory for healing potions, and see your lapis ring, at 97%. The spell% is one less than it would've been otherwise, and it's 3 durability down from being normal.
The mobs then kill you, you lose everything, and your hundreds of hours go to waste.
