    Hello everyone!

We've recently started talking a bit more about the next upcoming 1.21 major update and we felt like we needed to set expectations properly.

In the past, we've had roughly one major update every 8 to 12 months. This time, it will be later than usual for a few reasons...

    1. We spent time updating our internal tools
Generally, after a major update comes out, we avoid working on new content for about a month so that we can focus on fixing bugs and improving things. After 1.20, we also took that time to update our internal tools and scripting system. This system is what we use to create content such as quests, raids, dungeons, discoveries, etc. This change took longer than expected (we had to update and fix up every piece of content we ever made) and delayed 1.21.

We felt (and still feel) like this was a worthy investment. The new tools we have allows us to do much more than we ever could before. You may have noticed from the recent event: dialogue choices, time-based content (raffle and ghosts) and even the spiritual tuner (which uses improved maths from our scripts to show the location of spirits) are only possible because of the new system.

    2. 1.21 is more work than we expected
Without going into too much details, we expected 1.21 to be faster and easier to do on the software development side than it ended up being. That's totally on us. We have some game-changing stuff being worked on that I'm sure you guys will love, but we need some more time to do it properly.

    3. We separated 1.21 features into smaller patches
Veterans likely noticed after 1.20 that we've been pushing new patches pretty consistently, which is unusual for us. If we hadn't done that, these new features (party finder, emerald pouch, potion stacks, reworked CCI, guild seasons and objectives, etc) would have been packaged together with 1.21 and released all at once. And unfortunately, pushing stuff is never 100% free. It requires time for setting up beta testing, deploying, and bug fixing to name a few.

    4. Recent community feedback about bugs
This one has a fairly minor impact on 1.21 but is still worth mentioning. Recently, you guys made it clear that you wanted us to focus more on fixing bugs on existing content, so we've taken some time aside to do that. Though we haven't posted a changelog (yet), we pushed a ton of content bug fixes in the past month, and plan to continue doing so.

In the meantime, we will likely continue doing events, CT threads and pushing fixes. If you see some more events from us, know that it barely affected 1.21's release as they're often handled by different groups and purposefully designed to not hurt the major updates productivity.

Thank you for your understanding. We can't wait to show you what we've been working on.

As stated above, thank you for clarifying all of this! I personally don't mind the delay at all if it means the next update can be at the best quality it can be, all these reasons for the delay totally make sense and I'm happy with them.

since 1.20 came out on january 20th this year, and going by the info in the thread, i'm not sure when 1.21 would come out, maybe sometime around march 2022?

    Epic transparency!!

Could you somehow notify people when fixes get pushed? Was a bit confused when the push a few days ago happened for 1k meters, cowfusion, etc. and the only way to verify was to go by word from people who did the quest -> took a bit for #questions to get back on track & still don't know the full extent of changes

A certain former longtime CT whom I will not name brought up an interesting thing a few weeks back, in that Wynncraft updates often have a tendency to overfocus on Shiny New Tech and end up letting the fundamentals of the content produced using that tech suffer. Just look at every past update, you can see quests that look really cool at first glance because they show off scripting tools that haven't been available before, but ultimately suffer when placed under further scrutiny as the mechanics begin to be outdated (think - animated armor stands NPCs in Gameplay update quests, movable NPCs in Corkus quests, D&D, unskippable cutscenes, etc.). I bring this up mostly after seeing the little piece in point #2, out of concern that this may happen again.

That aside - it's great to hear that some measure of spreading out content and not forcing it unfinished into the update is a thing. It's long been pretty much the fatal flaw of Wynncraft's update cycle, and a contributor to most issues in the game.

I very much hope that this comes to fruition and is not just another buggy mess, I look forward to this update cautiously.

As you say I'm one of those who'd prefer that you take the time to polish things rather than push them early, so take your time.

OwO. Seeking this is really what peeps needed. Giving up little updates on how things are going on on the CT side is what we really need and I'm sure peeps appreciate the communication. :3

Honestly, the patches sound really neat! Instead of just waiting around and twiddling our thumbs for the next release, it's nice to see some new content here and there. Makes peeps still be interested in Wynn with updates and keeps it fresh. (So long as it doesn't create the feeling of CT missing something, or leaves holes that obviously need fixing if there was set up. I'm looking at you Aldorei's Secret Part 2.)

Also, yes pls. Bugfixes. I love 1.20's Realm of Light and Hero of Gavel but bugs really sucks out the enjoyment of doing quests or big updates on release. (Tho, the army of 10+ Lari in a cutscene is pretty funni.)

Except the Wynn CT actually knows how to balance and won't fuck up their game
Inevitably the Sb admins are going to screw up a major focus of balance and fail to change it for 8 months, it becomes a part of regular gameplay, and its suddenly nerfed the ground and becomes unusable. Then a new piece of content arrives and the process repeats again.
