To Qira, or really anyone who knows:

How are Infused Hive weapons, like spears and daggers, created? They seem rather unique compared to other weapons.

This is stupid and not really canon to the rest of the Drabbles, but I was struck by a lightning bolt and threw this together in like a half hour, enjoy hopefully

    ==========================

“That competition is rigged! It had been from the start, I knew it!”

“Yep, and you’re totally not just saying that cause it’s from Corkus, right?”

“You bring any more of this frivolous tripe into my Hive and I’ll burn that shirt you’re so fond of.”

“I’m not fond of it, I just love the look on your face whenever you see it!”

“If you are only here to distract me, leave! I need concentration for this!”

Much as she was loathe to admit it, adapting some of the Corkian technology into her Hive had drastically increased the quality of life. Things were far more convenient with easy access to food refrigerated by electromagic rather than by fickle lamias or dangerous weather controllers. Many of the creatures she had designed to maintain the Hive had been freed to be redesigned more for the eventual war- though she still had her original notes. Only a fool wouldn’t- If the new conveniences proved unsustainable or were removed, they could return to the old ways.

It wasn’t, however, solely wiring, gears, and air-conditioning units that had been brought over. Gale’s constant wheedling and pressing on the topic made Qira finally give in and purchase something else, as well. After all, it seemed like the pool of challengers had mostly dried up. It had been nearly a month since anyone had come to face her challenge...and she was so dreadfully bored. This meant that it was so much harder to distract herself from Gale’s... Galeness. And the little devil on her shoulder finally made the mighty mistress of the Hive crumble.

Tommoyai, the name read clearly in her head. Some upstart electromagic inventor managed to perfect the monitor design that the fool Cerid used for his ill-fated computer. She knew of that project. It only served to prove her various precautions as sound-minded. Keeping control of your creations is paramount if you’re to play at godliness, after all... Regardless of that, Tommoyai quickly began to market his “wondrous” invention, and Gale wouldn’t stop talking about some kind of tournament only accessible to those who purchased one of his monitors, and a “WhiteBox” computer system. The idea was certainly intriguing to Qira- a virtual tournament? One part of her insisted it would be nothing but time-wasting nonsense. But her curiosity- and her boredom- couldn’t be contained.

And so, she found herself a few feet away from a flat screen, with the bubbly letters of “Whiite Sports” bold on the screen. And a number of hours later, she found herself mocked by that smug little Mhite doll in the opposite corner of the boxing ring, Matt.

A hundred times she had gotten to him. A hundred times she had failed. It was utterly humiliating. Absolutely infuriating. Inexpressably disheartening. She was ready to pitch the ridiculous-looking “WhiMote” through the screen and rip out the wires.

But only once she proved she could triumph over this upstart Matt, who seemed to break all the measurements that previous opponents were bound by.

And with a single punch, her chosen Mhite was down on the mat, and inwardly she groaned at the pun- She was sent to the Matt. She’d have to make a mental note to disallow WhiteBoxes in the Hive.

“Girl, how’d you even GET this far? You’re just flailing at him!”

“I no longer regret cursing you.”

“Yeesh, cuttin’ deep. You sure you don’t wanna take a break? I know you don’t mean that.”

“...you’re right that I don’t mean what I said, but I do, quite literally, have nothing else to do right now, if you’ve forgotten about that detail. I am only doing what you suggested of me, Gale!”

“Curses. Foiled by my own plot- Now I HAVE to watch you fail at video games~”

One hundred and two had to be Qira’s lucky number, surely.

Qira purchases the new Xbox mini fridge and is then peer pressured by Gale to buy a Wii

Maybe Gale wanted Qira to buy the wii because Ohms never actually died and he actually went to work at Nintendo

while i'm on the topic of ohms, i'd like to say i'm sorry for that one suggestion thread i made a few months ago. for some reason i didn't think that begging for something would just add unneeded pressure and make you less likely to do it

Music is a powerful inspiration. This is after a long, but unspecified timeskip.

    ===========================

“Oh, I am getting far too old and crooked for this.”

Miyagi had long given up the title of Sensei, but he still certainly hung round the Dojo. It was his home, after all- if not his place of birth or the place where he fell onto his bed day after day, home nonetheless... And only he really knew just how to settle everything properly. The gong was hung awkwardly- but unfortunately, the years had not been kind to him, and he could not manage to fix it no matter how he struggled with it, and he was left breathless after only a matter of minutes.

“You know, my offer is still open, Miyagi.”

“Oho, yes. I should certainly know- I have lost sleep thinking on whether to take it.”

Without turning to look, he knew exactly what was happening- That tall, dark Mistress from the neighboring gulch. She had taken to visiting the Dojo on occasion since his attempt on the Hive, and he had even surprised himself with the tenacity he showed then. Oh, how the years flew! Oh, if only he could once more experience such vitality! And it seems she agreed- or perhaps pitied him? For all his pondering, he could not tell. Yet every time, the offer was given. Not simply the trade of rice for threads, metal for hardwood, cloth for paper. The offer to once again have such a dream fulfilled.

    To be young again!

He knew not how long that Mistress had lain in her peculiar little burrow. For all he knew, she may have been born in that gulch, and later shed her spider’s legs to walk upright. Many things about her were a mystery- but then, so were many things in life. She was not special for being strange, for many were. She was special for many other things. And throughout all his life, he had never seen so much as a wrinkle cross her face. A single vein grown large upon her hands. Heard the creak of aged bone or muscle. She remained ageless, and he would not deny his envy.

“Is it really such a conundrum? I can see you struggling as you are, and you’ve told me how wonderful it would be to be able to do what you loved in this Dojo again.”

“Indeed, I have. It is a question whose answer should be obvious, it seems.”

He was lucky, in a way. He had grown positively ancient. A fine diet and rigorous training will grant one that- and to think his peers mocked him to begin with. Oh, Villagers should not be practicing such things, you ought to be practicing your magic and not those silly kicks and chops, try studying in a library instead of sitting under that tree, yet here he was- having outlived so many. Come to think of it, his birthday would be soon. Miyagi pondered whether he would be receiving another round of gifts from the Dojo. One hundred and two- hah!

So, with that...he had certainly enjoyed his life thusfar. And he could not deny that he certainly wanted to keep living for a while yet. There were many things in life he aspired to, but could not reach with the limited time he had. That offer of her life magic, bringing strength back to his creaking old bones, his dusty muscles, his puttering brain- to once again be in his prime, and to prosper for another hundred years or more- it was a temptation beyond temptation. Even simply to teach one more lesson properly, without needing a chaperone to aid him, to be back on his feet again...

“I merely hope that you come to your answer before your time comes. I...know from experience that dying unsettled can bring some...unpleasantness.”

“Ah, yes. That spirit of yours-”

    “She isn’t mine.”

“Isn’t she though! Ohoho- You’ve a stronger grip than you realize.”

“...if she wishes to leave, I would not stop her.”

“You must confront that she cannot leave yet. It simply is impossible, no matter how fervently she may want to. Perhaps take a grain of your own advice, miss. Settle yourself- only then may she fly with the winds again, truly.”

She fell silent behind him. At some point, the two had begun to slowly walk about the bridges and hills, no destination in mind. Simply walking to walk, to feel the breeze and let themselves feel as though they were doing something more than retreading a conversation they had spoken through before. Yet she did not stop walking. And neither did he. Until, all at once, gazing up at the misty mountain clouds, he reached his final answer.

“...I do not believe I can ever take your offer.”

“And I can’t understand why. It feels like you will be leaving so much behind.”

And it was true- Such a sentimental fool he was in his old age. Finding old things in his cupboards and drawers brought forth cavalcades of emotions, weighted by decades of memories good and bad. He had seen and taken so much, carved out a place in this world for his own purposes, for the purposes of others, whatever they may have been...but if he remained, then...

“As people, we are not meant to live forever. I have taken many things from this world. Built many things. Torn many things down in equal measure, but there is a final caveat to everything I have done. I have given much to my pupils and those I have cared about, but there is one that I have not given any of myself to. One that I have long taken from, however gratefully, but never given one thing back to, and her name is the earth.”

“So to live forever is an aberration, then?”

“To live beyond your time. If living forever were so awful, why, I’d have joined those rambunctious Dwarves in that little spat against the Doguns a while back. The second one, of course...”

“To think that we would see wars of such caliber, and to think they wouldn’t be more than a newspaper headline for us.”

“Ohoho, we are lucky to live in a sheltered place like this- as capricious as the canyon walls are, of course! But, I am getting sidetracked. What we take from the earth, we must eventually give back to her. I feel as though living longer...it would be a pleasure, certainly. But I would do a disservice to my oldest of mothers to not return to her embrace soon. My spine and joints certainly wish to lay in the mud for a time now, hoho...”

Many things laid unsaid as the dark Mistress left him to wander about the hills. Yet Miyagi believed that they were clear to her as they were to him. Would he miss the people he met? Certainly. To see the children that knew him only as their Great Grandpappy Miyagi grow into wonderful adults of their own right would give him no end of happiness. Yet the draw from that quiet sleep was just as strong- Why, he’s certainly kept his wife waiting long enough! He will certainly never hear the end of that once their spirits reunite.

And so on that day he decided- while he would look forward to the days he had remaining, there was nothing to fear when he reached his final one. Miyagi decided to be buried under the cherry tree, to let his body nourish the earth that gave him so much in return. A small kindness, to be sure- but more than enough. Perhaps he would visit the seaside shores past the gates of Llevigar before. He was certain he had many a month left in him, and more than enough time. To simply be a geezer, standing on a dusky shore, mesmerized by the gulls, gazing fixedly into the blue sea...

The very idea gave him a bit more energy. Perhaps he’d be able to finally fix that consarned chain on the gong now.
