Well fellas here we go, the post no one will care to read.

As you may be well aware I have been banned for committing a sin in the eyes of wynncraft moderation; bug abuse.

Unfortunately, a good friend of mine, StuttersEgirl, has been banned for the same thing, although to a much lesser extent than I have. While I duplicated my items a total of 13 separate times, Stutter had done it once. After feeling guilty for what he did, he went to a wynncraft moderator and reported the bug along with admitting to having done it himself. While this might seem like the right thing to do, clearly the mod team doesn't think this is the case.

After reporting the bug and admitting to having done it, he was banned; on top of this, the moderator blocked him on discord. This should give you a hint of the attitude of the wynncraft mod team.

Instead of incentivizing the reporting of bugs, they punish those who report them. While I'm not the biggest fan of Hypixel Skyblock, I'd like to use them as an example. On hypixel, players can earn unique trophies for reporting bugs; however, here they punish the player. Now, I ask you all as a community, if a server truly wants to fix itself, to improve itself and it's community, why punish people for reporting the bugs? Incentivizing players like him to report bugs instead of making sure players have no motive to report them only hurts the server and the community as a whole. Instead of improving and patching bugs, the server continues to be a shitty mess.

My friend, after reporting the bug and admitting to it, and instead of being told he was going to be banned honestly, was given hope that he would be allowed to continue playing if he told the moderator he conversed with how to do any bugs he was aware of. Above, however, is a screenshot of him being banned regardless, most likely to be denied on appeal.

I hear you honest players who haven't abused complaining: why shouldn't bug abusers be punished for cheating? And I propose you a similar question; why shouldn't the average player be incentivized to improve the server and the community?

Because of the dishonest and generally exploitative nature of the staff teams tactics, people will refuse to report bugs, including ones like IceIsYummy was banned for; duping bombs.

Thanks for reading, and hopefully this will convince the moderators to change their ways. Honestly though, I doubt it will, since in their own eyes they're infallible.

I'm sure there was a very good reason your friend got banned, however unfair it may seem on your end.

I didn’t say his ban was unfair, I’m simply saying Wynncraft mods should incentivize reporting of bugs instead of punishing people for it. Clearly if you think I said his ban is unfair, you didn’t take the time to thoroughly read the thread. He did the bug and got banned, but instead of having a chance to explain he was immediately banned and blocked by the moderator.

I assumed this meant you wanted him unbanned, my bad for the assumption.

Regardless, even in Hypixel, you don't message a moderator to resolve a bug, instead you create a bug report. Keep in mind that I don't know the exchange your friend had with the moderator, so the moderator could have been in the right for blocking your friend.

In most cases it depends on which moderator you’ve contacted. There’s no clear code of conduct so different moderators may have different measures when taking punitive actions. In this case it seems that you’re unlucky to message someone that’s harsh. My suggestion is to take it up to one of the mod managers, or you can post the conversation your friend had with said mod with the mod’s name censored so that we can hear both sides of the story.

On hypixel its also a much larger server where it’s more difficult to form personal friendships with moderators, and my friend wasn’t being rude whatsoever from the screenshots I saw.

This is exactly the problem; why should moderation be subjective whatsoever? Moderators are given too much power in deciding the case, there should be genuine guidelines for deciding someone’s punishment, but that’s outside the scope of this discussion imo.

I'm probably the most biased person that could reply here outside of the staff team itself, but I guess I'll give my thoughts on this:

    - If your friend got blocked on discord chances are they were doing something genuinely very rude to the mod in question, if they got blocked on discord just for messaging a mod about their ban that feels really wrong, and something I would doubt a staff member would do. Are you sure they didn't just get their message ignored? And as RamonaFlowers said above, you absolutely should tell your friend to contact a mod manager if they think the mod team is truly being abusive.

    - If your ban message is true and you all got banned for duping cosmetics, it's something the staff would likely take far more seriously than any other ban because it legitimately might hurt the server's profit, IMO it's far worse than something like a dupe glitch. That being said I don't think they should be banned forever if they never ended up using any "duped cosmetics", but that's just my opinion.

    - I don't think the mod team is desperately trying to act as though they're infallible, given that they have a pinned feedback thread and based on some comments I've seen before they seem very open to feedback.

    - Knowing the guy, I am almost certain he wasn’t rude, considering he spilled out the steps to do three separate dupes I highly doubt he would do a full 180° and then start being an asshole to them. If this was the case then I agree that a block is warranted however from what I’ve seen of their conversation he said nothing rude to them.

    - I agree, it should be taken seriously; so if he told them the exactly how to do the bug, wouldn’t it make sense that they return the favor by at least reducing his ban from permanent? He told them three bugs and was honest with them about doing it himself, it would make more sense to ban the player until it was patched at which point he could be free to play the game.

if you abuse a bug and get caught you deserve your ban

if you abuse a bug and then are stupid enough to report it, you deserve your ban even more

its incredibly easy to discover a bug then report it without abusing it

To clarify: mods do not fix bugs. Bug fixing and punishments are handled by 2 entirely different branches of the staff team.

also, the moderation team doesn’t just ban people for finding exploits and reporting them. If your friend was banned for it then that means they abused it for their own gain prior to reporting it and used said duped items.

I’m not sure where you got the idea that I ever said mods fix the the bugs, not to mention regardless of whether or not he used it, it says in the rules that a player who files a report for a bug will “never be punished” unless they use the bug after reporting it, implying that they’ll be forgiven if they used the bug prior.

i dont think it would be reasonable for someone to dupe 500 stacks, report the dupe and then be 'forgiven'

that said, assuming your friend made the report immediately after abusing the bug, banning them is a bit harsh - depends on the exact situation

and for the record i messaged a moderator about a rule clarification regarding clientside mods a while ago and they blocked me after answering lol

If you were going to bring this up as a point against the mod team in specific then it’s reasonable to assume that you were implying that the mod team should do something about the lack of bug fixing when they aren’t in a position to do so, no?

no issue if you weren’t of that opinion, that’s just what I gathered from the post.

But by this logic you could abuse bugs a ton and dup thousands of le or smth and then if u report it afterwards ur safe
U reported it but u still abused the bugs

Now if u figured out a bug and, say, duped some emeralds on camera and then voided it to show the big but not use it for ur gain, then that shouldn’t be banned

Obviously I agree with the exception for abusing it but doing a bug once or twice is much different from doing it several times.

Nah, not of that opinion but upon re-reading my post I can see why you may have thought that, sorry for the misunderstanding

Well, if it really depends on POV and what the bug is.
U said they did do the bug before reporting it.
Depending on what the it was even doing it once could be considered abusing it (aka duping emeralds, can be done one time but still has an affect)

not trying to say they 100% deserved a ban, just saying depending on context and perspective they could have

If you or your friend broke the rules, especially related to duping using bug abuse, then I believe that the ban was well deserved, regardless of whether it was reported or not. Duping is a huge problem for the server, and abusing it is definitely breaking the rules, especially cosmetics, which could directly hurt the server's profit.
