How Does Mana Steal Work?

i never used mana steal as i found mana regen more reliable but im seeing a lot of builds with 11/3 mana steal for example and im wondering how it works

 

When you hit an enemy there's a chance of it triggering and giving you mana. That chance corresponds roughly with it giving the amount of mana every three seconds.

 

What the person above said, and keep in mind the slower the attack speed the more likely it is to trigger (so super slow is best for mana steal)

edit: nvm super slow isn’t the best, I was wrong. It just has a better chance to trigger per hit.

 

does mana steal work with spells?

 

No only melee.

 

That's not really true. The attack speeds make only a difference in how many times you have to click to get the mana, and in that case can we say that technically super slow is the best. But if you can click quite fast for a bit of time, attack speed doesn't make a difference.

except it's not practical to constantly melee while also doing spells, so it absolutely does make a difference

 

mana steal is most commonly used in spellsteal builds, where you only stop casting spells to proc ms so super slow is objectively better in most practical applications
