Quirky intro aside, this is a new series I plan to do every Saturday discussing main lore topics of Wynncraft, and this is intended for a player who wants to dive in to the storyline, or someone who has seen all of this, but not really that observant to the story.

Also, fun fact about the title, I just called it this because I thought it sounded cool, a forgotten library in Wynn containing all the knowledge of the world (fanon btw).

Anyways, onto the main topic.

Spoiler: What is the War of the Realms?

The War of the Realms is by far the most important event in Wynncraft, and is basically what the entire storyline revolves around. You can even see 'War of the Realms' spelt out in Wynnic characters in the logo if you look carefully enough.

The War of the Realms is, to put it bluntly, is a battle between the Light and the Darkness/Dern (Realm of Light Part IV - Finding the Light). However, there is much more to it if you look carefully enough.

First, not only is the Light and Dark a part of the War, but there is also the Corruption, coming from the Realm of War, and although this is theorycrafting territory, there could probably be many 'in-betweens,' the most notable to me being Twilight, and possibly even a realm of Cosmic Magic. Back to concrete evidence, the War of the Realms is reflected onto what many Wynncraft Players know as the world of Wynncraft, The Physical Plane.

The Physical Plane is shown in a diagram by the Guardian of the Forest in RoL 4 - Finding the Light. The diagram is simplified to this:

Orphion - Realm of Light - Gavel
Realm of War - Wynn
Dern Beast - Realm of Darkness/Dern - (While not explicitly stated, it is pretty obvious it is referring to the Silent Expanse, as learned later on)

Now, both the Realm of Light and Realm of Dern have their own beast, the former being Orphion, and the latter being the Dern Beast. What the beasts are, is the physical manifestation of that force, in other words, Orphion is a being of pure Light, and vice versa for the Dern Beast.

Both Orphion and the Dern Beast are huge rivals of each other, and their motives can be seen in the ultimate discovery of the Light Forest, Ne du Valeos du Ellach, the Dern Beast says, "No... You are blind, my friend. Let me show you what this war has become. As the war of the realms... is endless.", to put it in layman's terms, "WotR good for me," and, while marching into theorycrafting territory here again, this could mean that the imbalance strengthens Dern's influence, and it is not hard to see why, as Orphion's power has been weakened, which I'll get into later, but all you need to know is that the Dern Beast is currently at an upper hand.

However, there's been one thing that hasn't been touched on yet, and that is the Realm of War. The province that it is reflected on is Wynn. The Realm of War also is tied to the bane of Wynn itself, the Corruption. As stated in WynnExcavation Site D, Corruption is formed whenever Light and Darkness touch chaotically, in other words, essentially an embodiment of chaos. However though, one key thing to note is that the Corruption has no beast, since it is instead a byproduct of Orphion and the Dern Beast fighting. This could also mean that the Realm of War was formerly a place like the Physical Plane, torn apart by Orphion and the Dern Beast's feud.

There is also one other thing to note, and that is what I like to call, 'In-between realms', and yes, this theorycrafting territory here again, but it is very likely that the Realm of War is not the only realm in between the Light and Dark Realms. As stated before, it could be of various things, such as the Twilight, and Cosmic Magic, and maybe even Realms that are not even known.

Spoiler: Major Characters not mentioned before

Lari - The Servant of Light, she has a stubborn personality. She was chosen by Orphion to strengthen the Light, and defend Gavel against the Dern Beast's attacks. While she is stubborn, she has pacifist ideals, and on numerous occasions (Realm of Light III - A Headless History), spares her enemies instead of killing them. However, she also has a side of frustration, from being locked out of the Taproot (Realm of Light II - Taproot) to nearly killing the player (Realm of Light IV - Finding the Light). After being told by the Guardian of the Forest, however, that violence is necessary, she gains a more rational mindset, this time killing whenever necessary instead of a last resort. After a skirmish with Bak'al, she presumably went to Dern, leaving the task of freeing Orphion to the player.

Bak'al - Bak'al is basically the opposite of Lari. After entering the Nether Portal, Bak'al became a Corrupted being (Fate of the Fallen). However, unlike another victim of the Corruption, Bak'al managed to have his mind intact. However, it has been stained, and Bak'al's motive changes to serving the Dern Beast. Keep in mind (and yes I'm going to say this), THE CORRUPTION DOES NOT SERVE DERN. Bak'al can control Corruption, but when the Corrupteds are not enthralled by Bak'al, they attack anyone, as mentioned in A Hunter's Calling, Bak'al states, "The fool decimated my army when I last laid siege here," the fool in this case being the Corrupter of Worlds, another corrupted being. Bak'al was also tasked with placing The Eye on top of the Eldritch Outlook, a place where up is down, no is yes, and apples are oranges. Bak'al was last seen in the Physical Plane in 886 AP, where after a battle with Bob, the Hero of Wynn, Bak'al vanished (Wynn Plains Monument), not being seen until Realm of Light V - The Realm of Light, as Lari is about to approach Orphion, Bak'al stops her, and instead of Lari saving Orphion, instead sends her to the Realm of Darkness.

The Parasite - Essentially the main antagonist (if not main, then at least secondary) of the Realm of Light questline, The Parasite is a Dernic creature that feeds off of light. It first appeared in Gavel in the year 0 AP (After the unearthing of the portal, or After the appearance of the Parasite), and had a battle with Lari, which created the first spot of Decay in Gavel. The Parasite fled underground after an elf called Dullahan assisted Lari (Realm of Light III - A Headless History), and would not appear for 800 years (Parasite Cocoon). After emerging underground, the Parasite then began to fight Lari, and while Lari almost killed it, her stubborness made her spare it, which in turn, made it bite Dullahan, which weakened her strength. What's more is that the Heart of the Decay appeared in the Kander Forest around this time, being the place where the Decay is strongest at. This has also caused the Parasite to reproduce, with its brood feeding off of the Light and spanning from the Llevigar Plains all the way to the Gylia Plains. After a while, it then feeds off of the highest concentration of light, Orphion, causing the Light Beast to act berserk and weakening the force of Light as well.

The Eye - The Eye has massive symbolism throughout all of Wynncraft. It is mentioned in the WynnExcavation questline, there are countless signs of it in the Ancient City (WynnExcavation Site D), to even being seen in the logo of Wynncraft itself. The Eye was created after the Dern Beast ripped its Left Eye out (Silent Expanse's Secret), and told Bak'al to place it at the highest point where it could see everything. It currently serves as the Dern Beast's window to see anything in the world.

Spoiler: Timeline (Basically a TL;DR)

0 AP - The Nether Portal is unearthed releasing Corruption, The Parasite appears in Gavel and fights Lari, The Parasite burrows underground, Bak'al becomes Corrupted

800 AP - The Parasite emerges once more and fights Lari and Dullahan then later ends up biting the latter, The Parasite creates the Heart of the Decay

886 AP - Bak'al will never be seen again in the Physical Plane for a while

Unknown - When the Eye was created (0 AP+), When the Parasite latched on to Orphion (800 AP+)

Spoiler: Theorycrafting Territory

This is unconfirmed stuff that is only meant to serve as a basis of theories, in other words, this is not objective, instead it is a possibility of implication.

In Ne du Valeos du Ellach, Orphion says "This fight... This war... It has torn us apart from what we were." In WynnExcavation Site D, a force known as Twilight is mentioned, and is implied to be a peaceful union between Light and Dern, meaning that Orphion and the Dern Beast were originally the same being, the Twilight Beast.

This is cool and all, but I would like to tell everyone reading this thread that the Corruption does not serve Dern.

at this point this is just nit picking

 

Absence of Proof is not proof of absence, the message could just as easily mean that Twilight could be formed of a peaceful exchange. There's also the fact it's also kind of nitpicking, so I do believe that Twilight cannot exist, but at the same time, have a feeling it could exist.

 

Since the player would enter the Silent Expanse and kill the Eye, what would the Dern Beast see once the Eye is killed?

Good luck finding any lore on those things considering all that is known about them is that one destroyed the sky islands and is in the void and the other is working on destroying COTL but got calmed by a dogun once

 

and that they are very old and might have been made out of magic drug tablets that people use for dungeon parties
