Theory: The Corruption Serves Dern

Literally 1984.



But what if I told you: the Corruption DOES serve Dern?!

I think we all know about the SE ultimate secret discovery showing a conversation between Bak'al and Dern Beast. Bak'al serves Dern Beast.

Sure, Bak'al is not representative of the entirety of Corruption, but why doesn't Bak'al serve Orphion, if he could equally well do so? Why doesn't Orphion enlist Corrupted humans, or villagers, or elves? Why doesn't Dern Beast send a human "chosen one" influenced by Darkness to help fight the War, like Orphion does?

Does anything actually explicitly state that THE CORRUPTION DOES NOT SERVE DERN? I couldn't find anything.

The formation of Corruption involves both Light and Dark. Does this mean Corruption must be neutral between them, though?



Throughout the Silent Expanse, there are dark, black spires, with purple tendrils spiraling up.



The Realm of Light has no signs of dark, black, spikes. Dark spikes... sound familiar? Corruption spikes. Both the Corruption and Dern share this characteristic: they both create these obsidian spires.

Why? you might ask. Easy. The Corruption serves Dern.

Well, let's go over some counter arguments.

"Just because the Corruption doesn't serve the Light doesn't mean that the Corruption serves Dern."

True. But, the Corruption seems to have a similar will as Dern: take over and spread their influence over Wynn, and not just the province, but the realm.

"The fact that Corruption and Dern have similar color schemes doesn't prove anything."

Also, true; but consider the spikes.

"The Crystals' lore is more complicated and important than you think. According to Mehme, 'someone' cast cosmic magic on the meteors that fall to Wynn and Gavel. The creators of cosmic magic had one goal in mind and that was to stop the Light and Darkness from expanding. Ever noticed how the Darkness never expanded into Wynn itself? That's because of the meteors that are in the Silent Expanse mountains, sent by those creators themselves. The theory goes that cosmic magic can prevent Darkness (and thus Light) from spreading. This is also the reason why Gylia Plains has never been decayed, as it contains the two biggest meteors we've ever seen. The crystals in the Silent Expanse mountains therefore act as a barrier. HOWEVER! Thanks to Lunar Spine's lore, which mentions how a 'shard of cosmic stone' that came out of the Nether Portal was defiled, we know that Corruption is able to counter cosmic magic. This makes sense, because if neither Darkness or Light can defeat it, then their chaotic union could. Anyways, now I want you to think about something. Why does the Dernic Beast even employ the use of Bak'al, a corrupted, to destroy Wynn? It's because the beast NEEDS Bak'al. He needs him to corrupt Wynn, and once he does, the cosmic magic barrier will be destroyed and he will be free to do anything he likes."

i have a great idea! i will take everything here seriously and attempt to refute it because yes!

because there is no corruption in gavel? how would orphion have recruited any of those things from across the ocean? (and in 900 he was likely already infected so wouldn't have been able to bother then either)

corruption is formed from both light and dark, it fits that it'd share some characteristics with darkness (although admittedly darkness and corruption do seem a bit more similar than light and corruption i guess, but that's really just because the spikes are the only noticeable part of either)

light wants to take over the realm too it's just doing a crappy job of it so far

Also one counter argument that can bust it completely is "How can something without a mind serve someone?"

Also other serious counter-argument here: Corrupter of Worlds. In AHC (Not the best info for events as they are 'what-if' scenarios, but can show behavior), Bak'al states "The [Corrupter of Worlds] decimated my army when I laid siege last," showing how it is mindless and does not serve Bak'al.

 

The corrupter of worlds is under Bak'al's power (probably) but it wields enough power to do incredibly stupid things at its own will
Bak'al probably failed to restrain it when this happened

 

In AHC, bakal mentions it is too far gone to control
Bakal cannot control it, because it is too corrupted. Bakal DOES NOT have control over CoW

Why would it be under Bak'al's power? CoW was the first human to enter the Nether (and coming into contact with the Corruption), much sooner than Bak'al.

Afaik there is no proof to support it except "CoW is corrupted" which is not an argument.
