Community Event [ended!] Battle Of The Quests - 2021 Edition

There seems to be some tension about certain quests in the final 8, but can we just agree that most of these quests straight up dont deserve to be here?

Its my favourite quest, I love the atmosphere, gameplay, the way it introduces you to SE...I really had a lot of fun when I played it

TFF2 vs AHC

Before the Ava simps cast their votes, consider:

AHC > TFF2

 

80% of quests > TFF2

 

TFF2 > 80% of quests

 

Could someone explain the appeal of A Hunter's Calling to me, it just kind of seems like a bad, inconsistently applied gimmick relying on nostalgia to make people forget that it is ungodly long without any interesting gameplay (except for Aledar and Tasim fight that's fine).

 

I can't speak for everyone ofc, but most of the gameplay is inoffensive. However, I do enjoy the parkour segments (I enjoy parkour in general, so I guess that's kind of cheating). I consider Tasim+Aledar to be one of and arguably the best boss in the game, so even if I considered the rest of the quest to be ass I would still do it just to fight them again on my playthroughs. Theorick and Maxie's fights are both pretty good too, though Theorick now seeming to spam arrow storm can be obnoxious at times.

I also think the insight into a few of these scenarios is cool. We can see how Wynn Excavation probably went about gaining their iron grip over Wynn other than simple bribery, see more of how horrendous the Olux factory truly is, even if the villagers are complete idiots, and get a hypothetical "what if" follow up to the Corkus storyline. These three add a decent amount of depth to what we already know about their respective stories. Most of the others can fall under that nostalgia argument though (and yes, that can include Tasim+Aledar).

It's realistically around the same length as other long quests in the game if we assume you aren't bum-rushing through other said quests, barring possible travel time without scrolls/other fast travel methods (ex. buy a Detlas scroll->Airship->Juggler->Rodoroc). Really, the only major problem I have with AHC is that it can be quite buggy at times. More specifically, the runes segment in Troms and the Olux section tend to just break for no reason, so it makes the quest tediously long in that situation. It's not PoNR parkour levels of buggy or anything, but it's there.

tl;dr
I consider it to be a good quest, but I wouldn't really consider it to be "semi-finals worthy" unless we purely judge it off the boss fights. It's just that for all the matchups they were in I would prefer to do AHC (save for A Hero of Gavel, which I would say is marginally better than AHC overall).
My "ideal" semi-finals would have been Order of the Grook, Misadventures, Forbidden Prison, and another strong contender (Feather's Fly Part II, which it is, 1k Meters Under, please don't burn me at the stake but I have a soft spot for 1.20 Lazarus Pit lmao, etc), but hey, this is a community ranking after all and thus I don't care all that much.

 

It reminds me of those 30-stage "epic final quests where you team up with bob and fight the level 1000 god of dern and get a mythic set of armor as your reward" quest suggestions on the forums, and I'll always have a soft spot for AHC because of that

To me, AHC is just:

Sans: oh hey player, go do some shit all over the world to have nostalgia for your adventure.
Sans: also this isn't even the end of your adventure so i don't know why the nostalgia quest is at what i'm guessing to be the midway point of your adventure, but i didn't code it

ragni guards, theorick, etc: DIE!
player: no
Sans: ok cool have this black cata set bye

It was fun the first time, but the placement of the quest makes no sense to me and the bosses are far easier than they should be, all it took for me to defeat Aledar and Tasim was morph set.

Meanwhile, The Feathers Fly part II has secrets, a fun and interesting click-based minigame, lore implications, and post-quest easter eggs. IMO, TFF2 is better than AHC, and for me, the best quest in the game as of now

 

TFF 2 is otherwise pretty good, but the beanstalk, which is supposed to be the climax of the quest, really just kills the quest's points for me.

 

Well folks, it's all led to this. By some miracle, my two favorite quests have ended up in the final round, and needless to say it was a bit tough choosing. Although the community obviously doesn't share the same opinion as me, I feel as though this round will be very close.
