Hello gamers, Skylaar here with a small short story I made for a hypixel forumer, Snom_! I posted it on their forums a bit ago, and remembered i should also put it here. Hope you enjoy!

    ----------------------------
    COLD - SNOM
    ----------------------------
I inhaled deeply, smelling the scent of all the flowers in front of me. this was nature at its finest, and I loved it.

    “Snom.”

The branches of the trees swayed slightly in the breeze, providing a calming sensation.

    “Snom!”

Everything was just so serene and perfect, I never wanted to lea-

    “SNOM, WAKE UP!”

I was jolted awake suddenly, forced up into a sitting position. My peace ruined, I stretched and rubbed my eyes to awaken myself more, then looked around for who had awoken me.

“What are you doing sleeping during training?” the voice of my general exclaimed. “You can’t just laze around all day! Get up, soldier!”

Reluctantly, I slowly stood up, and, after stretching a bit more and yawning, much to the general’s fury, I finally stood at the ready. “Training is being held at the sparring arena, Snom. I expect you to be there soon.”

“Alright.” The general glared at me. “Alright, sir,” I added unenthusiastically. He sighed as he turned back around, making his way out of the little room where I had been sleeping. I rubbed my eyes again, and slowly trudged out of the room as well. The sparring arena was all the way across the fort, meaning I had a long way to walk to get there.

The reason I was at this fort, in this army, was not of my own choice. My family was practically neck-deep in debt, meaning that in order to pat it off, I needed to be drafted into the army. Most of the time, there was little to do here, but occasionally there would be an attack on the fort. I wanted to use this free time of nothing to do to rest, nap, or sleep, but for some reason, the general decided that it would be more efficient to “train in case of a major attack”. I couldn’t see his logic, at all.

The only things that ever attacked were the rival race of Magins, people formed of lava and stone. Even then, the attacks were of minimal effort, and most were extinguished before I even woke up, and I liked it that way. I was a Frolin, similar to a Magin, but made of ice and snow, and across our backs, like a turtle shell, was a shield of ice spikes fused to our bodies. We can retract these spikes at will.

Already, I was getting tired again, and wished I was back in the barracks, sleeping. I finally made it to the sparring arena, where it seemed like practice was wrapping up. I smiled, because I knew that meant that I would barely have to practice before I could return to my bed. Unfortunately, it seemed like Fate had other plans.

As I dwelled on how much sleep I was going to get, a massive bell rang, almost causing me to fall to the ground in shock. After a few seconds, the bell rung again, and I remembered what the bell signaled, and all of the other soldiers did too. They, as quick as they possibly could, grabbed their weapons and ran towards the main wall.

Normally, I would have been slow, but even I realized how serious this was. Besides, the bell ringing had me wide awake now, so there was little reason to return. I followed my fellow soldiers to the northern wall, where the general was now shouting from. A massive gate blocked the way to the outside, where an absolutely massive army was stationed, and they were not Frolins, and the distinctive red color almost caused me to snarl. Magins.

And not only were the Magins here, but judging from the amount of elaborate armor and weapons, they had sent their most elite soldiers to fight. It was at this moment that I realized that I had forgotten my own gear, but as I looked at my rival race, my mind filled with loathing. I would fight these beasts bare-handed if I had to, and clearly, from the ever-growing war chant from the other Frolins, which I joined in on, my allies thought so as well.

The general opened his mouth to speak, but whatever he said was drowned out by the shouts of the soldiers. He stopped, deciding that the presence of so many Magins was all the morale we needed. He leapt down from the wall and stood in front of the army, which readied their weapons, and me, my fists. With a shout, the gate slowly opened, and the armies charged, and clashed.

Hundreds on both sides fell in just the first few moments. Magins were frozen in ice, or blasted with sharp icicle spikes, while the Frolins were set alight or burned. It was carnage all around, but I didn’t get to experience much of it. As I ran, a large chunk of rock was launched towards me, and it hit me in the head, causing me to fly backward, and my vision went black.

Moments later, I awoke groggily, to a sight I was dreaded to see. The entire Frolin army was decimated, and the northern and eastern walls were ablaze. All around me were Magin soldiers, who seemed incredibly surprised that I was still alive, but their shock didn’t last for long, as they all turned at unleashed their weapons and magic on me.

I knelt down and braced myself, covering my face with my hands, and expected to be sent onwards to the great beyond. However, that wasn’t what happened. In fact, nothing happened. In disbelief, I stood up and opened my eyes. To my shock, there was a ring of dead Magin soldiers around me, their own weapons imbedded in their bodies. Even more strangely, incredible amounts of ice spikes were jutting out of them, and all of them seemed to originate from me.

I looked at my own hands in shock. Had I done this? I wasn’t sure how, but I wasn’t about to doubt this blessing. Well, I did stutter for a second, but then I remembered a message the general had given just days prior. He had received a message from another outpost, informing us that they had fallen, leaving us as the last standing military fort. This realization fueled me with adrenaline, and as more Magins appeared to stop me, I pushed myself to drive right through them.

And that I did. It seemed I was able to summon the icy force at will, firing spikes at my opposition, who fell like bowling pins. I decided I needed a quick-access weapon, and so one I made: a massive scythe made of pure ice, a fitting weapon for the carnage that was to follow. For once, I felt truly awake, like I could climb a mountain.

I pushed further ahead, bringing down Magins laughably easily. Soon, the whole army had been slain. Well, almost the whole army. One last opponent stood in my way, the supreme general of the Magin army. From my old lessons, I recalled that there was only one of them, and that they had power in the kingdom second only to the king. Bringing him down would be a fatal blow to the Magins.

His armor and weapon, a large cleaver, were intricately designed out of Aspliz, an incredibly fire-attuned metal, and he paid no attention to the bodies of his comrades, only fixing me with a sharp glare and beckoning me forward for a battle. I snarled, and, at the same moment, we lunged towards each other.

Out weapons met in the middle, incredibly cold ice against impossibly hot metal. Both struggled to best the other, but neither of our weapons made any progress. I unhooked my scythe, and using my momentum, spun around in place and twisted my weapon to attack him from the opposite side, but he was prepared. Once again, opposing elements clashed, but there was no victor.

My opponent leapt high in the air and swung his cleaver down in a massive arc, which I narrowly dodged, but the impact of blade to earth caused me to stumble. I fell to the ground, and barely rolled over in time to dodge another swing. I stuck out my scythe as the Magin swung it again, and gritted my teeth as I forced myself to fight against his power.

Memories flashed in my mind, of the people in the city, and most importantly, my family. If I failed here, there would be no one left to protect them, and we were as good as doomed. I was the last line of defense. If I fell, the city fell, and I couldn’t let that happen. With the last of my strength, I slowly forced the cleaver off of my scythe and up into the air, shoving the general backwards.

I stood up, and suddenly, I spoke with a voice that wasn’t mine, like a deity using me as a vessel for a divine message, to the opposing general who now stood up. “You have defied the peace of my people. Waging war for only the gain of power and wealth.” The force controlling my raised my arm out in front of me and pointed towards the general, who seemed terrified beyond belief. “And for that, you will be punished.”

A bolt of pure ice energy shot from my hand at blinding speed, piercing the general before he could react. The strange sensation faded, and I looked at myself in awe. Then, I knew what I had to do. These powers were not to be wasted. I would free my people from the tyranny of the Magins. I was… Snom.
