The New Snapshot

So Minecraft snapshot 21w06a released recently, and WOW it's amazing!

For a start, the build limit's now 360 blocks, and the world depth's been increased by 64 blocks as well. I did an experimental world on the snapshot, and I was able to dig into -y levels!

And the caves.... they're huge now! needless to say, I really think 1.17 is going to be an awesome update.

What do you guys reckon? have any of you played the snapshot yet?

 

diamonds are now common so they need to make them rarer

 

yeah diamonds are way too easy to find now to the point where mining isnt as fun anymore

what they should so is decrease the chance of one spawning in contact with an air block

 

I like the new cave generation very much. With Worldpainter, you were able to make such caves in the earlier versions. I can say they are a lot of fun to explore but you will have to fight a lot with all the mobs. Espcially cliff/beach is a very dangerous area.

 

Yeah. I can think of a lot of interesting builds you can make in those caves.

I've been waiting for a good decade now for Minecraft to receive an update solely focusing on the "mine" and not the "craft", and this snapshot is shaping up to be a very good tease of such an update. The caves are absolutely gorgeous and stunning, even without shaders, and I found myself content to fly around them in spectator mode for nearly an hour just exploring for the sake of geographical discovery, something that has never really existed for underground Minecraft.
There's impressive mountains and floating islands in Extreme Hills biomes, and dazzling forests of trees that scrape the sky in biomes like the Giant Taiga, but the most impressive thing you'd ever find underground was a couple ravines connected together. Now, it feels like right below the surface, there's an entire world to discover, and this is only the beginning! I'm so hyped.

they haven't added cave biomes or the deep dark yet

 

they just added the deep dark and it kinda implies that the warden will be guarding the huge amount of diamonds down there so it seems as though mining that deep will be balanced

 

I really like the new Grimstone, really makes the deep underground sinister

I like the idea of strategic mining, you could make multiple mine tunnels for different ores that go to different Y levels

 

but there are a lot of diamonds in Y 0+ where wardens probably will not spawn
