Hey! What You're Calling "dern" Isn't Dern (and Other Misinterpretations)

Note: most of this is based off of this quote from ROL IV: “The Realms of Influence are, themselves, reflections of a Beast- They themselves, a physical manifestation of their realm, as their realm is a manifestation of them”

This is an extremely important lore point that I don’t think gets enough attention because it got buried in the 50+ line dialogue. There are a couple of things this reveals.

1. The Realm of Light is Orphion
They are interchangeable, the name Realm of Light is just used to differentiate from the light beast and the place that you can walk around in, purely to avoid confusion. Don’t like the name Realm of Light? Just call it Orphion (and potentially confuse everyone who didn’t read that line)
2. Dern is NOT the area behind the Silent Expanse (WRONG)
THIS IS BECAUSE THERE IS NOTHING BEHIND THE SILENT EXPANSE SORRY I REALLY MISINTERPRETED THAT AREA. Dern is the realm of darkness and the Silent Expanse leads directly to it. I was really confused about this, I thought that there would be a full province accessed through the silent expanse, sorry about the mess.
3. The Dern realm of Influence can also be referred to as The Realm of Darkness
This way it matches with the pairing of The Realm of Light. If you don’t believe me, refer to this picture from ROL IV:

It's terrible quality but you can tell that it says “Realm of Darkness”. You should start calling it that, however it is still accurate as “Dern”
4. The Dern Beast is “Dern, Beast of Darkness”
If I’m not completely wrong about who the Dern Beast is, it should be the reindeer fox’s darkness counterpart. Thus it would be named similarly, and would just be called Dern, as the fox is usually referred to as Orphion (It would be kind of weird to say "Orphion Beast")


Conclusion
The province accessed through the Silent Expanse is NOT Dern (debatable), that is the name of the darkness beast, and the connected realm of influence should be referred to as the Realm of Darkness. Otherwise when that province eventually arrives, it will cause a lot of confusion.

Something along the lines of "Dern isn't a province, its a realm" . Also I'm pretty sure the portal into darkness is Dern as stated by the wiki. (Also Dern in middle english roughly means darkness so Path to Darkness = Path to Dern)

Exactly. Gavel is a province, ROL/Orphion is a realm. Thus dern is not what people keep calling it.

 

I've never seen anyone refer to Dern as a province, since we know it to be a realm.

Except Dern and the Realm of Darkness where interchangeable since it was know. Orphion was always referred to as the physical form, but Dern was always the realm and its beast was always the Dern Beast.

 

It doesn't say "Dern", thus it is not dern. If it was, it would be "Dern" and not "FI*^T*&FGUDUFUDGIW"

orphion is the physical embodiment of the realm of light. not the realm of light itself. the realm of light is the name of the realm of light, and orphion is the name of the beast that protects the land.

 

I think some admins a while back confirmed that SE is in fact "Road to Dern"
Also its ijqanfjuahfuyhaefr because you haven't been there yet, The time you do RoL 4 is before you go to SE

 

It's censoring SE, since at level 71 you're not supposed to know what that is yet. (I've heard that it actually was once uncensored SE in beta.) SE is then connected to the realm of Dern, as Gavel is connected to the Realm of Light and Wynn is connected to the Nether.

Shoot ok there goes one of my arguments

 

"FI*^T*&FGUDUFUDGIW" is meant to be glitch text, many people (including devs) have been calling it the "road to dern" for as long as the update has been out. Why would it change now?

 

Also, in hero beta, it said The Silent Expanse

 

Orphion is a physical embodient of Light, the force of influence. Not its protector, but a body to do stuff.

In theory you can use "Orphion" for Light, but in almost all cases it would be taken as incorrect die to already existing and not confusing terminology

 

Ok I added an edit to the post

 

Realm of darkness = Dern
Realm of light = realm of light
Orphion = embodiment of light
Dern beast = embodiment of darkness

why can't it just be that simple?
