SPOILER A Discussion On The Nature Of The Darkness (spoilers For Rol)

So, I haven't done Silent Expanse, but I get the picture. Dark, dreary, oppressive.

But, I dislike the trope of light=good dark=bad. It might not be the case but I believe that they are just different viewpoints.

I mean, Dern infected the realm of light, but isn't that just an opportunity to win the war? I mean, strategically it makes sense. You could claim it disrupts the balance, but the war is to try to come out on top.

So, really, it isn't set in stone that the darkness is evil. Yes, it does bad things, but I am certain that you could use darkness to fight evil, yes? Wasn't it rumored that Bob defeated Bak'al using dernic weapons, as they were black?

I consider the corruption to be much more insidious in nature. It is just chaos. Destruction. I don't think a single person found a constructive use for it. And, then there is Bak'al.

Ohhhh boy. Bak'al I think is one of the more interesting villains in the game (although they really should revert the dialogue with him. He just says peasants over and over again in the wynn plains discovery). He is just so brutal. I think that it would be an interesting plot if he corrupted the dern beast. Corruption affects all and, before they changed the dialogue in RoL 5, it sounded like he corrupted Orphion (which I thought made much more sense than a parasite. Why can he talk to you in taproot if he is bringing hosted upon? I just assumed Bak'al just did the deed at the end of RoL 5).

I guess this is kinda like how Lari doesn't like killing but Orphion is fine if it is needed.

 

I would rather team up with RoL, I don't want to walk into Legeaters or Zealots all the time

Evil? Hm. Always a matter of perspective, don't you think?

 

I don't think Bak'al could ever be considered a hero... And I like to think of him as the most evil, even if he himself is a "peon"

 

Damn, I'd actually love if there was a plot twist that the Dern beast was a good character who was turned against Orphion by the corruption. I don't think Bak'al is the leader of the corruption since Theorick literally says that Bak'al is a corrupted human during Fate of the Fallen though. Also, Garoth's journal says he saw ''it'' when he stepped into the nether portal. Whatever ''it'' is is unknown but if this theory is true then whatever Garoth saw is probably the true antagonist of Wynncraft

omg i completely forgot about that! i hope they eventually give us a bit more on whats through the portal in the future, maybe making it explorable at a high lvl

 

Corruption has no leader. Bakal simply realized that he was powerful enough to lead armies of it. But it's not like if he dies the corruption dies. I had an idea for a nether dungeon called the center (of the clash of light and dark) that has you finally kill Bak'al. I was thinking maybe Bak'al sits here, absorbing both sides to become super powerful.

Perhaps, but I kinda see Bak'al as overstating his power. I mean, most of the enemies he has faced have been non-magical weak soldiers. The player is obviously "special" as they didn't even have a life before Fruma, which makes me think that the player was a synthesized highly adept at magic supersoldier (and lets face it, also probably immune from the corruption as most would likely succumb to the roots, and how else would they be able to make a nether quest).

It's just a trope in lots of stuff. Personally I wouldn't be that annoyed if they made darkness more neutral (light the same) and made them two heads of the same coin.

 

It’s a fantasy mmo, this is the trope that’s got you annoyed? I’d say 1.20 made the dark vs light closer to what you want, what with orphion advocating the murder of innocents

Spoiler: Bak'al / Dern beast lore

In the ultimate discovery of SE, Bak'al serves Dern Beast and obeys them. Dern Beast seeks to expand their influence across Wynn, using Bak'al to do so.

Note that Bak'al is not the embodiment of corruption or a leader of corruption - he is merely a corrupted human who has retained his intelligence.

There are "dernic fish" in SE. There are Kantyrs, which, are not livestock, but if necessary one could eat them. Also, is there anything wrong with eating eyeballs? Sure, they're not very commonly seen in western cuisine, but is there anything inherently bad about eating them?
