I've played this game for a long time and I've seen how the game improved over the years.
Gavel Reborn was no exception. Most of the new/remade Quests are a lot better than the old ones.
The Iron Heart I for example is a lot better, the dialogue rework gave this quest what it needed. Aquiring Credentials was a lot more fun than the old one and the Worm Hole Quest is one of my favourites now.

But sadly not every quest I have played is good.

"Taproot" was a bad quest and I was excited for the 1.20 rework. Sadly it was very disappointing. At the beginning Lari just talks (in my opinion too much dialogue and too fast but thats just a personal thing) and you follow the particles, the same thing as in the old taproot exept you dont have to collect flowers. Then Lari gets frustrated because she can't enter the taproot and runs away. You do a little jump and run and the taproot sends you into his memories. Same thing as the old quest. You walk through the forest and finally reach the beginning of the decay. After that you see a very, very long cinematic and discover the story of the decay and how it all began.

Conclusion - Its exacly the same quest, but Lari is annoying and we got a nice (but too long) cinematic. The quest wasnt good earlier and 1.20 hasnt even bothered to change it. Its the same old bad quest, arguably a bit better or a bit worse but I definitely didnt enjoy it. (2/10)

"The Headless Hunt" was the worst remade quest I've ever played. Can you immagine how much potential has been wasted?

The Dullahan, ruler of the dark forest, headless and atrocious was one of the most interesting characters in the entire game. He kills his victims during full moon, always beheading them while riding on his black horse, tainted by dark magic.
After experiencing an incredible quest and seeing what this man has done to the people of the dark forest you finally reach his castle in the mountains and ...
    RAID - max level: 420 - players required: 4 - 5

Thats what it could have been like.
    What did we get instead?

    1) A boring character. Everything the Dullahan says is boring and doesnt even try at being interesting.
    2) Basically no gameplay. There was like one small jump and run and a little boss fight and that was it.
    3) Literally 289 cinematics.
    4) We now hate Lari because she is a complete idiot and I wonder that she even manages to breathe.
    5) A compleately ruined quest. I mean it. The old quest wasnt great but it was 100 times better than this incredible boring cinematic garbadge. Cinematics make the game a lot better, the cinematics in this quest are great but there is just too many of them and the story is boring.
    This story is literally the
w o r s t in the entire game. Im not kidding. It even spoils the lazarus pit if you havent done that quest. The old quest had this interesting beginning. This quest started with no dialogue and you had to figure it out yourself. Even that is gone.

Conclusion: The headless history quest wasted one of the greatest ideas and has no real gameplay, is boring, has a bad story, it literally makes me hate Lari and immediately makes every of the Lari quests worse, it has 10.000 cinematics that show us a meaningless relationship.
This quest is literally my least favourite quest EVER. "The Canyon Guides" is a masterpiece in comparison to this.
    (-1/10)

    One last thing:
Imaxe I dont want to insult you or be disrespectful. You literally made most of my favourite quests in the game (Dwarfes & Doguns, the quests in SE, the new worm holes quest ...) and I want to clarify that I think your work is incredible (normally).

Also all of this is my personal opinion, feel free to argue with me in this thread.

Also please someone redo Lari. I literally H A T E her. She literally has a mental breakdown every 20 seconds and sucks.

Headless history made me cry. It's a good quest but for people that like lore and all. I would go as far as saying it is the best quest in the game right now.

I hate everything about her. She has no brain, doesnt take anything seriously Dullahan says, tries to fix everything because she can't handle to kill a creature of darkness.
She is annoying, has a mental breakdown every 20 seconds and she behaves like a child when Orphion doesnt let her go in the taproot. She isnt a guardian of the light, she is a childish thousand year old moron.

I'm fine with the new Dullahan, but the number of unskippable cutscenes made me lose interest by the end of the quest, on top of this, the ending is pretty bad

Simply walking up to the door to end the quest was anticlimactic. We were sent in to kill the Dullahan, but instead we get 15-20 minutes worth of exposition thrown in our faces without any way to meet the Dullahan. That was pretty stupid

I love lore. I literally read the wynn wiki to get every bit of lore out of a quest.
    Why I hate this quest?
Because the story is garbadge. Its so boring that I dont even care about the lore.

So, I have to disagree with this.
Taproot is much better than it was previously. The voice that speaks to the player in the taproot is much less obscure, which I can appreciate. It is clearly Orphion, rather than the actual taproot itself or whatever. The cinamatics are much better than in the original quest. And, I don't mind Lari.
I would say its around the level of Kingdom of sand quest. 8/10.

But, the Headless hunt is currently one of my favorite quests ingame. I love the backstory, as it is a lot more fleshed out. Maybe I just was hungry for L O R E, but I thought the quest was thrilling. I was disappointed there was no dulluhan fight at the end, but I seriously doubt that it is a raid. Really? Just a dark elf with some soul magic? Come on! At around the same level, you are killing corrupter of worlds and amadel. He doesn't sound that powerful. Also, as a side note with the lazarus pit spoiler, the definition of a Lazarus pit is in the name. Raising the dead.

So I guess you hate her more as a person rather than from a writing standpoint as a character. You hate her for having a load of flaws and a lack of success despite her having the power to fix all her problems. If anything, your reaction to her as a person might show that she is somewhat decently well written because you dislike her for her lack of ability to solve her problems.

Edit: So I’ve noticed that this post seems to be getting quite a few likes despite simply being a short statement about my interpretation on the op’s annoyance towards Lari. I have a feeling that many are liking this post because they might think that I see Lari as a good character. I would like to say I have no real opinion on whether Lari is a good or bad character. In fact, I see her character more as a meme or joke and I got a lot of laughs watching her interactions with the player and the world (I probably shouldn’t be laughing at her failures but this game is literally Minecraft). I simply said what I said in this post because as an ex-writer, I think it’s important to distinguish the difference between hating the person and hating the character. People can hate Dolores Umbridge from Harry Potter due to the way that she treats the main characters, however she is also probably one of the greatest villains and most well written villain in Harry Potter. Whilst Voldemort is the main villain of Harry Potter, Dolores has a much more tangible impact on the main characters. Voldemort is like the peak of a mountain climb while Dolores is the rock in your shoe that bothers you throughout your entire climb. People can’t really hate Dolores as a story character but they can hate her as a person.

In this instance, I interpreted the op’s response as hating Lari as a person and then they corrected me stating they hate her as a person and a character with a fair reasoning (I don’t know if I would call the reasoning good but it’s fair, opinions are subjective). I see why Lari is a bad character but I also see why Lari is a good character and so it all comes down to personal preference. As a person who destroys every piece of literature I read by reading it from a writer’s standpoint, I hold no opinion of the character of Lari and so you should not like this post if you did it because you think I like the character of Lari. You should only like this post if you think what I said was accurate or if you like the edited follow-up.

Of course, a little dark elf with some sould magic doesnt deserve a raid.

But the Dullahan idea could have been so much more than that.
Ye ... happy that you like the quest ^^

Not really. I hate her as a person and from a writing standpoint as a character.

    1) I hate her as a person because [see all of the things above]
    2) I hate her as a character because I can't really see a good idea in a childish elf that is the guardian of the light. On one side shes a majestic elf, thousands of years old with great power and chosen by the light and on the other side she is annoying. Those 2 things combined make me dislike the character design.

That’s fair. I’m sure many other people have arguments as to why this duality in her character makes her a good and well written character. This isn’t a field I feel like arguing in though as this part comes down to opinion rather than objectivity.

Personally, I don’t really care at all about her character and just do the quests for the sake of doing the quests.

Would just also like to say that headless history is the best quest in the light questline IMO. Sure, the cutscenes take a while, but whenever I do a quest like this I always pay attention to the dialogue and just enjoy it. Last time I did the quest I listened to this in the background and I gotta say it fits the quest very well

Strongly disagree, Lari is actually great character, Lore is great, pretty much most of the things peole have already said

The only reworked quest I disliked is An Iron Heart 2, I love/like every other quest
I am a huge fan of old AIH2 even tho it was kinda fetchy
    You know why?
It was actually brutal and suprising.
In new AIH2 its really obvious whats going on, old quest just made us realise that villagers and golem factory is connected in some way.
And then you go to factory, see blood, body parts and you meet Urelix
My problems with this quest are:
Daxe: His dialogue and golem rage makes ending pretty obvious, imo golem should be moved into factory
Urelix: The thing I loved about him is how hidden he was, when you saw him for the 1st time in old AIH2 it was like: Idk who that guy is but he looks mysterious. Seeing him before the end of the quest makes him less interesting imo.
Factory: I LOVED old factory! Blood, weird machines, cells... It looks really plain now, like normal factory instead of laboratory where villagers are turned into golems.
Yeah, Im not a fan of this quest and I will miss old version

"2) Basically no gameplay. There was like one small jump and run and a little boss fight and that was it."
As someone who is slightly above the level of headless history, I would not call the boss a "little boss fight". Granted, I'm not very good at the game and my set is not optimized, but the boss is (from my limited experience) complex and (potentially) very difficult.

Hmm, I think I share a different opinion. I can not remember Headless Hunt, so it was not that good.
Tbh, the story of Dullahan is not finished yet, maybe there will come some sort of a raid. The dialog hinted the power of the barrier is fading. You also had the connection to the Forbbiden Prison, so I think there is way more ongoing in the background.
In my opinion the cinematic brings in more depth into the origin of the decay, Dullahan, Lari, and all North-West Gavel. It explains how the corruption is closly tied to Dern, as well as the main problem with Lari and the consequences of her stubbornes.
And here's the thing. The more she tries to solve the things in a good way, the more time she wastes and the more desperate she becomes. And I think they did a great job with Lari's character. Normally you would exspect from an being that is over 1000 years old that they are wise, mature, respectfull and have a good knowledge of their powers. Lari is the exact opposite! She is impulsive, seems to have not really an idea what she's capable of and what her quest really is. She knows that the mistakes and the fate of Dullahan and the people suffering from Decay and monsters are her fault, that time works against her. So she drives herself crazy, litterally becoming absolutly deperate over the years. She begins to doubt herself, and that becomes even worse when the player randomly walks in and makes more progress than she did in more than a millenia. And the moment we appear with the plant, she has the feeling even the elves lost the trust in her and we're making fun of her. This puts her into literally ragemode.
She was intended to be annoying. She was intended to be unpleasant to the player. She changed her way towards us in the process and LEARNED something. The RoL questline explains why.
But in one point I can agree, the dialog was fast. A bit more gameplay in Taprood would have been nicer. But I honestly would not want to collect flowers XD

PS: The impulsive way of Lari probably will break her neck, but what would you exspect from soemone who refuses to fight, thus having not much combat experience.

You don't even get to fight Dullahan?? This is disappointing news and only solidifies my opinion that the new quests are bogged down by too many cutscenes and dialogue with little fun gameplay, playing them through a second time must be hell without gameplay as you'd have seen the lore before.
You do seem a bit overly harsh on the quest though, especially when you say it's the worst quest, there are many worse ones in my opinion (poisoning the pest, dwelling walls, green gloop, deja vu, a couple of old gavel quests etc)

You do need to go easy on the colours and large text size btw xD

It was one of my favourite quests story wise so I can see how it could be handled really well!

    Ouch, savage and controversial

    Subjective = opinion based

Objective = Based on facts and cannot be disputed (e.g £10 is worth more than £5)

Ironically you've just said he's not objective which means he's subjective... which is oddly correct as it's his opinion. But saying his post is bad because it's opinionated is bollocks

That comment had me scratching my head a few times lol

Is the boss the Dullahan? If he is then quest is saved
