    Hi everyone,

Firstly, happy New Year to you all!

For the past few weeks, I have been grinding in the Tower of Ascension in an attempt to get mythics. I've seen people wondering about this method and how effective it is, so here's a breakdown for everyone.
(I am doing this now because as of today, I have used exactly 100 totems in there so it makes for good/easy averages)

    Preliminary information:

I am doing this as a shaman. (Using Hive Relik - I'm sure there are better ones to use)

This is all on Floor 6, Level 8 of ToA.

Loot Bonus: 187% (and I use a LB scroll each time which have between +16 LB to +30 LB) This means that I have an average of 210% Loot bonus.

Loot Quality: 76% (until 30 totems ago, when I upgraded my gear to give me 79%) This means that my average is roughly 77% Loot Quality.

    Amount of scrap required:

120 scrap every two totems (to fix armour)
110 scrap every three totems (to fix accessories)

    THE REWARDS:
Per totem, I have received an average of:

    3.19 legendaries
    0.23 fableds
    0 mythics
    (473 kills per totem too)

(Plus lots of normal items which I sell for scrap)
(I ignore: Unique, Rare and Set items)
(I keep powders if I have room when I go to fix my gear)

Yep, I've used 100 totems and received: 319 legendaries, 23 fableds and NO mythics (with 47,300 kills)

    Is It Worth It?

Yes, sort of. If you are looking for mythics - no. If you want to get heaps of legendaries (and fableds, kinda) then it's definitely worth it. As of 1.20, they can be sold to make a profit, plus you can always sift through them and keep the best (when you've got hundreds, you're likely to get some very good legendaries/fableds in the mix).

Keep in mind that as each totem lasts 5 minutes, you're only going to spend either 10, 20 or 30 (or 40 for Champions in 1.20) minutes per day actually grinding. So it's not a huge time-vaccuum.

I'd also like to point out that this method has lots of flaws. ReneCZ made an excellent video about this which described how you need:

IRL Money: For the rank for the totems.

Good gear: (So either lots of In-Game money to buy it, or have spend hundreds of hours farming profs and ingredients (like me xD).

A high level shaman: Shaman is the most effective mob farming class.

Where do we go from here?

My next idea is to start using Loot Quality food/scrolls on my farming sessions too.
I may make another one of these when I hit 200 totems used to give a better average (or I may make one if I finally get a mythic).

This method can technically be made twice as effective by using double loot bombs; however, it is NOT worth it. They can only (realistically) cover about 3 totems' worth of time (because you need to fix gear) - so it would take 33+ double loot bombs to cover 100 totems. You may get over 600 legendaries and nearly 50 fableds, but you'd still get 0 mythics (Yes, I know it's chance-based anyway).

In conclusion, in 1.20, this will be quite lucrative from selling items, so it's worth it in that sense. There is also the constant chance that I may find a mythic. I also enjoy doing this as I can listen to podcasts/music as I do it. I am also very, very slowly levelling up my level 105 shaman xD However, I do NOT believe that it is worth ever using double loot bombs for this.

Anyway, hope this has been an insightful look into ToA farming :)
Any questions, comments or feedback is always welcome and appreciated!

    Hm.
Never thought about this before (I don't have a rank so it wouldn't be as effective anyway), but it seems like a pretty average farming technique.
Ofc, Shaman is heavily nerfed in this department in 1.20, so I wouldn't recommend it going forward, but as a concept - great work!

Yeah, I realise that 1.20 is going to nerf shaman pretty hard, but to be honest, if you can get the mobs within the range of its aura, it should still work fine

Is that because of shaman nerf?

Oh! Didn't realise that. Thank you for letting me know :)

Frozen Heights looks far easier to grind at though - it's just the spawn rate which will let it down I guess (compared to ToA)

1.20 is introducing loot grind spots that have better drop rates though, so it seems that they are making a more official way to do this.

For the record, use t rift to get multiple totems then switch to disco/dd. Also use a toxo or spleen for poison to kill. Within 2 minutes of using this on Floor 7, Level 1 I got two warps from a loot bomb.

Grinding mythics at ToA isn't really effective unless you've all the gears to make it so. People who do ToA usually have a toxo, 100lq and 300lb, and maybe lootbombs.

Also 3 legendaries per totem is rlly bad... Fabled rate too, I'd get around 2 Fabled drop per 5 totems
Mythic drops from other mobs aren't nerfed right?

ToA mobs just have a very low item drop chance now, everything else is the same
