Art Wynncraft-chan 3: The Finale

To give this thread and art piece a bit of context, I figured I'd start with some backstory due to the original being (almost) three years old. However, if you don't want to bother with a bit of reading, you can just skip past it.

Spoiler: The Brief History of Wynncraft-chan

So about 3 years ago, back when the trend of turning inanimate objects and entities into anime girls (later into incarnations of Princess Peach with the Bowsette trend) I was a year into my art career and tired of only drawing Homestuck characters. With the brightest spark of inspiration, I decided to do something nobody had done on the forums yet and turn Wynncraft into it's own anthropomorphic character.

However, the main issue is I had basically no experience in anatomy and drawing full characters, and the experience I did have was rather lacking and low quality. Thus, the result of my work - completed in a day - was, to say the least, a bit sh*t.

Spoiler: The First Incarnation

With no experience with drawing hands nor drawing anatomy, this first drawing was full of flaws. However, it did lay the groundwork for a new OC I derived from it's design, which I've since evolved over time and got a lot better at drawing.

This version was built on the shaky foundations of a build consisting of Third Eye, Witherhead's Talisman, Skeleton Bones, a fire bracelet, two normal rings, Frozen Pants and Virgo.

After getting a mix of feedback ranging from white lies to make me feel better as but a seed of an artist to brutal truths so I wouldn't fall to delusion, I spent about year and a half gaining more experience with how to draw. I talked to other artists, learned new things and generally improved my style. However, 2.5 years experience (with only 1.5 years of that realistically spent on learning anatomy and proportion) is not enough time to make art that you wouldn't see on a Sonic the Hedgehog fan's DeviantArt page. Thus, my redraw meant to remedy the cringey damage done by the original instead only made things worse.

Spoiler: The Second Incarnation

With little more experience, this piece is only slightly better than it's predecessor. The proportions somehow got worse, and I gave up halfway through creating a build and for whatever reason threw in a reference to a Nintendo franchise because I suppose I was lazy or something.

This version's build contains Third Eye, Skeleton Bones, a fire bracelet, a single normal ring, and then nothing else but the shorts from Splatoon.

As bad as this piece was, I left it with a horrific promise-turned-curse on the thread I featured it on.

That promise has haunted me until very recently. Having a metaphorical ball and chain strapped to my art career knowing that I'll have to create a third incarnation of an already terrible artwork that would likely fall in line with the others and be awful.

Today, I've come to submit that third incarnation; but this time, I'm not going to promise another redraw.

Whether you read through the above history or just skimmed past it, I can't say that this piece will be much better than it's two cursed prior appearances. I am still limited by crappy camera quality, and I'll be sure to come back to this when I'm feeling nostalgic and cringe myself out of existence, but I did put my all into it.

This took quite a long while to colour, and due to my crappy camera quality (and choice of software) it's rather low-res. I'd say I plan to fix this in future, but I'm probably not going to post any more art on the forums.

Spoiler: Bonus: Concept Art

To make sure this piece came out right, I spent some time drawing concept art of what each piece of equipment should look like. This allowed me to fix some designs (like with the pressure gauges on Steamjet Walkers) and figure out how things should look before drawing the actual piece. Originally, I was planning to add a T3 Fire Necklace - seen top right - but I ended up cutting it since I felt like it'd obscure Skeleton Bones as well as being the weakest piece.

I also added Sephiroth's smash quote to The Eye because of how much this character has haunted my every waking moment with regret.

Thus concludes my final art post on these forums. I realise I said a while ago I'd stop posting, but this piece is just a final loose end I wanted to tie up.

I love the improvement, but I'd like to talk a little about the clock:

It's either something very sublime like "I finished this at exactly 17:01 all 3 years" or (highly unlikely) it's a mighty reference to all those clocks you can gather around Gavel and then fight bosses with. either way, loving it.

You're close! 17:01 is definitely the right time to be looking at, and the 3 years do have something to do with it.
