Guide Psa: Mythic Market Manipulation

Something very fishy is going on in the mythic market.

I'm not sure exactly what happened but people have been way overpricing mythics and now it looks like people are intentionally buying overpriced mythics to bump the 2-week average price up.

idk im just kinda angry, this is stupid and there should be safeguards against this. The mythic market is too small and rich players can just fk with stuff to the detriment of everyone else

Rough pre-bump 2-week average sale prices, so you don't get scammed:

Apoc: 147,000 (price almost doubled)
Moontower: 1,200,000 (price almost doubled)
Divzer: 800,000 (price increased 150%)
Grimtrap: 627,081 (unchanged)
Boreal: Around 200,000 (memory is fuzzy) (price increased 150%)
Pure: Around 5stx (price almost doubled)
Stratiformis: No clue strati prices are dumb anyway
Thrundacrack: 400,000 (price almost doubled)
Toxoplasmosis: ID dependent, prices have always been dumb so idk
Ignis: Volume too low, whatever
Hero: 700,000 (price almost doubled)
Fantasia: 361,200 (price almost doubled)
Idol: Volume too low
Sunstar: Around 1,260,000
Alka: Still about the same
Abso: Whatever

Monster: around 2stx (525,000) (Price almost tripled...)
Fatal: around 3stx, probably less (Around 786,000? This only jumped 10% so might've been some guy genuinely buying a more expensive fatal)

At a quick glance the others don't seem to have changed much, that and I'm not as familiar with mythic prices overall.

How can I tell if the price I'm buying at is legit or manipulated?

My rule of thumb, for mythics where the IDs are not super critical (think: Hero, Monster, not Stratiformis, Toxoplasmosis) is to look at the lowest seller. It looks like whoever's doing the market manipulating didn't bother buying up ALL the lowest selling mythics so for some of these guys you can still look at the lowest seller price. If lowest seller is significantly below 2w average on a mythic where IDs do not make a huge difference, I would suspect something weird is going on.

The market was down earlier today, because there was a glitch where you could buy something and get stx of LE back. I'd guess it isn't intentional market manipulation, just inflation due to the glitch/exploit.

 

I highly doubt it, the 2week average for hero makes no sense regardless (I've been watching all the hero prices and its higher than the highest seller has been for awhile).

Also people are trying to sell mythics at absolutely insane prices, idk

People also flip mythics to revive them and put some control on the market, I think its fair.

 

Someone explain to me how monster tripled in price over the course of a few hours

My money is on some assholes just taking the 5% tax loss to try to raise the overall price of mythics so they can sell their holdings for more

 

Someone most likely flipped monster, meaning they bought all the monsters on the market and raised the price.

This mimics real life strategy. They take control over the market and distribute it accordingly. With the way mythic prices are going, I am not against this actually. I would rather not see mythics completely lose their value.

This is just rich players hoarding, to quote you, "taking over the market" and screwing poor players out of mythics, unless they pay shit tons of LE

 

At the same time, it is also conserving a market. I mean, how would you like it if all your mythics were suddenly worth nothing :<

 

I think my feeling of self-worth matters much less than making items and builds accessible to the general public

Especially when raids are coming up

Dude if you have enough money to buy all the monsters on market just chill and let other people play the game, you don't need more LE

If people didn't screw with the market like this and mythic prices actually dropped (which they frankly SHOULD, because of the insane influx due to lq) you'd probably be able to afford a mythic that isn't archer or shaman


(sorry im kinda really mad that this is allowed... It would be really great if there were limits set ingame to prevent this kind of stuff from happening.)

 

They'll lose money eventually, the market will crash.

 

these people spent hundreds of hours in lootrunning and/or other market shenanigans. It's only fair that they want to keep what they built up for years. And for those other people; getting rich takes time and effort, it's not like it falls out of the sky (ok for most people this is lmao), put some work in it yourself and you'll get there eventually :)


ALSO, you don't need mythics at all to play the game, so it's not like the rich people make it impossible for some players to do certain things

 

I will say there could be exceptions for these 3:

Divzer did get a fix in it's defence from -73 to -39, which I guess kind of makes it able to be TWFed and not ETWed anymore but then again I'm not too sure since I don't really do builds :/

Hero's price increased likely due to both its major ID being useful in raids, and also the new boss altar in SE, panic zealot, making it's major ID useful in that scenario as well.

Monster price increase is due to its usefulness in raids, from what I've heard from other players its really good in raids :)

Anyway, during these times when an update is approaching and there's hero beta and all and constant changes/buffs/nerfs to items, mythic prices tend to fluctuate so I wouldn't be surprised if we see more changes in mythic prices in the next few months.

Monster... maybe. Maybe people just started buying the monsters that are selling for 5st, though I do kinda doubt it

Divz is still niche, its price never dropped appreciably due to the future nerf that hasn't happened in the first place, definitely not 33%

Still many unexplained like Pure, Moontower...

 

like I said, prices change, Divzer is not a niche weapon, and its price DID drop a lot due to the future nerf, and trust me when I say I know my stuff when it comes to divzers, found 6 myself and sold more... So I'm not surprised if it increased due to raids/a lighter nerf...

I will say pure is overpriced atm but its a mythic that is level 60-70 range meaning that its relatively rarer as people in the Lootrunning community tend to stray away from troms dernel loot runs unless they want to find ingredients and stuff and instead run endgame areas like rodo sky void cork cotl se

But I'm still calling it an asshole move that I don't think should be allowed, and I think I'm within my rights to call out bullshit when I see it

I've lost at least 20st on mythics myself but I think its definitely a net positive to have accessible mythics

As for the point about "keeping their value", nobody is nerfing your mythics (yet). They have the same value in any build. Just you can't sell it for as many exp bottles. Big deal.


And I don't think anyone is gonna argue that peaceful rest mage can compete with the tank monsters we've seen solo TCC
