SPOILER Petting Purchaced Pets Requires Champion Rank

Guys.. come on, what is this bullshit. I'm cool with pets having cosmetics unlocked by champion rank, but the fact that I can't even pet the pet, which I bought with money, unless I spend more money is completely idiotic. I'm curious to see what others think about this, because I can't imagine I'm alone on this.

Also Salted: I don't want you to pet your pets, so I will hide it behind Champion.

I agree. Everyone should be able to pet their pets. An alternative change for champion I would suggest is being able to change you pet's response (probably pre-set responses still)

Petting your pets does nothing right? No xp, no leveling up, nothing helpful comes from it. Why would they lock this behind a paywall?

No, definitely not. But if something is entirely useless, why would you not let everybody use it.
And before you bring up skins, thats a bit different because you see them all the time. Petting your pet would just be an every-now-and-then thing.

 

Personally I don't care that much since its not something that gives you an advantage and only you can see it anyway.

But for real, it isn't about the petting my pet, it's about the mindset that the devs needed to have to gate such a basic and simple feature behind a $160 (probably) paywall. I take issue with the fact that they overhauled what was a completely pointless system before only to replace it with another pointless system but this time you can pay lots of money to make it useful. This is more of a symptom of the problem then the problem itself, but the fact that I can't even use the mechanic the feature is named after without paying for it, especially since I already paid for the pet in the first place is a little annoying.

 

Eh. It's a cosmetic thing like all the other random cosmetic things locked behind ranks. It feels like such a weird thing to complain about to me.

I agree, but it's also such a weird thing to lock behind a paywall, especially one which is that steep. The way I see it, the only people who are going to buy champ are the ones who really love the game and want to support it. I honestly don't think giving champ extra features is going to help sell it much at all since the people buying it aren't concerned about the extra stuff they get from doing it, just look at hero, you get 2 extra totems and a slightly better daily crate and so many people bought it even though it's double the cost of VIP+.

Salted said he doesn't expect many people to buy champion, so I really don't understand why they're packing so many features into it, at best it's a waste of development effort and at worst it's them trying to push people to buy something that we were told they don't expect many people to buy. I could understand a little more if stuff like that was VIP and above because that way the entry cost into the system is at a reasonable price, but I just can't comprehend why is so much stuff locked behind the highest paywall.

Also, I click on my pet all the time when shift attacking and the message pops up saying I need to buy the rank. If I could turn that off I might be a little less irritated by the whole thing too since I won't be constantly reminded.

Funny you should say that since it just so happens all the useful pet features are also gated by the paywall. What I want to see is no paywall on something I paid for. That's unrealistic of course but I wish they would at least throw us a bone (Pet pun :D).

 

What the heck are you talking about?
The only pet features behind a paywall are cosmetics and pet tasks (and ig petting pets).

Pet tasks are an incredibly useful and powerful feature which are not cosmetic in any way, shape or form. They are extremely functional and save a lot of time and effort. Lootrunning with the bank task essentially gives you a bunch of new slots every 5 min, which is a clear gameplay advantage. The repair feature is also super convenient since you can bring two different types of tools and use one while the other is getting repaired and essentially never need to go to a bank. Those are clearly the features I'm talking about.

 

Sorry I don't have the money to get HERO rank to have access to the Hero Beta, and I wasn't sure how useful they are.
There are other pet features i.e. fighting for you.

 

They technically fight for you at best, their damage even at max isn't really all that great and you need to hit the enemies first so it isn't super useful for gathering like I hoped it would be. Not super useful, especially compared to what they can do when you have champion.

 

Wow that's annoying.
It would be much more useful if they just attacked enemies in the area like a swarm (if you have multiple)

 

The issue with that is your pet would basically go rogue when you run past mobs you don't intend on fighting. It would be nice to have the ability to change the pets AI but I'm sure that would be a champion perk too...
