Is Canyon Of The Lost A Bad Area?

So I have been seeing a lot of people dislike CotL due to, well, you know, getting lost. But is actually a bad area?

 

I have mixed feelings for canyon of the lost but I personally kinda like the getting lost aspect of it a little bit. I wouldnt like it if it wasnt called CotL and instead was like dead canyon or something because I feel like It being the canyon of the lost warrants you getting lost a couple times.

 

Well, it's more just annoying to find your way around.
Personally, I quite dislike the area mostly because of the angle of the Wynncraft Map which means you can't really see the bandit's toll very well.

 

Wynndata map is good at that. Its 2d so there are no angles

Yes, I know WynnData is better; yes, I know use Wynntils; but it doesn't solve the problem that the official map is bad.
If, however, a flat map was added to the Wynncraft one (as a button or something), I personally would find CotL less annoying.
This still wouldn't make up for the fact that there is no mention anywhere in-game that you actually need to go through the Bandit's Toll (which is broken rn) to get to Thesead and beyond.

After a few playthroughs cotl stops being a problem imo. I still find cool passages tho and I’m not gonna complain about that.

 

CotL is quite fine... If you have map and Archer/Assassin/Shaman

 

Well, I say that because I was on an archer at level 50ish with a horse and I was trying to explore it. Why? I don't know. I was trying to get to thesead at the time, but after a few hours I still had no idea. The map wasn't helping either. I was trying to find a path there. However, I think the only way to get there was to climb the chained house, then spell spam to the neighboring peaks. I guess that area you could get over... You would basically end up on a higher path that could easily be followed to thesead. The issue was just recently, using the wynndata map, did I realize that this path was indeed higher up. It was really confusing. The gate is really close to thesead right?

 

Well once you're past Bandit's Toll, it feels close because there isn't nearly as much confusion, but it is still a while away as you have to cross a long path and then cross the fields outside Thesead.
In fact, the distance from the gate to Thesead is about the same as the distance from Letvus Airbase to CotL (according to fingers on the Wynndata map)

 

CotL is fine, it's way better than Sky at the very least.

Definitely tricky to wrap your head around the paths, but once you do, it's pretty straightforward.

Canyon Guides

 

Not the best area, but not the worst since you can relax on the mountaintops without hearing werewolves or angel DUNNNN every second.

I find the map (from The Lost) to be useless; it doesn't even cover some parts of the canyon. There just isn't much content in the far reaches of the area (from what I've found). There are plenty of caves and mobs, but the aboveground areas are too plain in my opinion. If you die, there is an 80% chance you respawn in Thanos, which is annoying to get out of and its borders extend for miles into the canyon...

Side note: when I first went to see the canyon I thought Eltom, Thesead, and Rodoroc were all located within the canyon's tall mountains, based on the map. The online map may not be a viable way to navigate this area.

 

Is there even really a way to get to thesead besides that gate (from west side)? Because I swear that the only way is to climb the mountains otherwise...

I have never been to the sky islands. Are they terrible?

 

1. The only legit way to get to Thesead is via the Toll - you can get over some mountains though.
2. The sky islands are pretty good, they are possible to get lost in, but generally the map easily stops this.
Also, the Sky Islands are really easy to fall off of (for me), until you have been there a lot and really memorised it.

 

There is one other method - you can sail to Jofash Dock from Llevigar and travel through both the Sky Islands and Molten Heights. Once you get through them you can legitimately head to Thesead.
